The most recommended area in Reno is definitely South Reno. In particular, the zones assigned to Damonte Ranch and Galena High School have consistently maintained high rankings for many years. These are not just temporary high-performing districts; they have received good evaluations for decades, which is why parents trust them.

According to Niche ratings, Galena High School has an A rating, while Damonte Ranch High School has an A- rating. This is definitely above the average for the Washoe County School District. Looking at GreatSchools scores, most elementary schools in South Reno maintain scores in the 7-8 range, while some areas in Sparks have schools with scores around 5. Of course, school evaluations reflect various factors, so you can't judge solely based on scores, but they do help in understanding the overall atmosphere.

Interestingly, home prices also follow the school district trends. A four-bedroom single-family home in the Damonte Ranch district in South Reno has a median price of about $650,000. In contrast, in the northern Sparks area, where the school district ratings are relatively lower, you can sometimes find homes in the low $400,000 range. This means that the difference in home prices can exceed $200,000 due to the school district alone.

This is why many parents in the U.S. often say, "Good school districts are ultimately proven by home prices." Initially, it may seem expensive, but over time, homes in these areas tend to hold their value well, and when it comes time to sell, it often works out to be advantageous.

In the past, Korean families preferred the Caughlin Ranch area. It was an established upscale neighborhood with good schools. However, recently, the trend has shifted a bit. There is a noticeable interest in new developments around South Reno and Double Diamond. Many newly developed homes are available, the living environment is clean, and the school districts are stable, making it a popular choice for young families.

Of course, budget is the biggest concern. If South Reno feels too expensive, looking at the outskirts of Damonte Ranch or near Double Diamond can widen your options. Even within the same living area, there can be more significant price differences than you might expect.

One important thing to remember is that not everyone in South Reno is assigned to the same schools. The school district boundaries change along Mount Rose Highway, so a difference of just one street can lead to a different assigned school. Therefore, I recommend that you don't rush to sign a contract just because you found a house you like; make sure to check the school assignment service provided by the Washoe County School District based on the address.

Additionally, Reno has seen a steady influx of population in recent years, so good school district properties tend to get contracted faster than you might think. There are many cases where people miss out on homes because they take too long to decide. If you are planning to move, late spring to early summer offers the most options, and it's much more comfortable to start monitoring the market at least three months in advance.

In my opinion, if you prioritize your child's education, it's best to first look at South Reno, especially the areas assigned to Damonte Ranch and Galena High School. Even if it requires a slightly higher budget, considering the school district, living environment, and future home values makes it a worthwhile area to explore.
