Having lived in LA for nearly 30 years, my perspective on Korean idols has changed a lot.
In the past, I thought being pretty and singing well was enough, but these days, K-pop idols seem to be at a level of almost total artistry.
Among them, one person who particularly catches my eye is Aespa's Winter.
Honestly, at first, I thought she was just a pretty idol. She has a small face, fair skin, and her body is so slender that I can understand why people use the term 'skinny' online.
However, after watching a few performance videos, I realized that Winter dances incredibly well and moves her delicate body in a surprisingly skilled way.
It's not just about accurately following the choreography. It seems like there's some kind of popping program installed in her body by default.
Her shoulders move sharply, her arms stop perfectly, and her head follows the rhythm, with each movement being very clean.
Especially when watching Aespa's stages like 'Drama' or 'Supernova,' Winter's unique dance lines are clearly showcased.
Even without exerting too much force, her movements are distinct. The characteristic sharpness of popping blends seamlessly with smooth transitions.
Of course, I'm not saying she's a professional popping dancer. To me, it means she has an innate sense of rhythm and body control that is exceptional.
What's interesting is that someone who dances this well also sings beautifully.
Winter is recognized as a member of Aespa for her vocal skills. Her voice is clear yet powerful, and her unique tone shines even in higher ranges.

But that's not all. She's also very pretty.
It's understandable that Park Myung-soo praised Winter's real-life beauty and named her the most impressive celebrity.
Someone like Park Myung-soo has probably seen most of the good-looking men and women in Korea during his broadcasting career.
So, it's no wonder that someone like him would highly evaluate Winter's looks.
In fact, Winter's beauty is somewhat unique among today's idols. Rather than overwhelming with striking features, her overall balance and aura strangely draw people in.
With short hair, she gives off a playful boyish vibe, but with long hair and stage makeup, she transforms into a completely different person.
She can be cute one moment, then cold, innocent, and suddenly exude charisma. And the stage energy that comes from her slender figure is also impressive.
However, being thin is not a measure of talent. The important thing is how precisely one can move and express their body, regardless of body type.
Living in LA, I've noticed that American fans place significant importance on idols' dance and live performance skills.
Simply having a pretty face isn't enough to maintain long-term interest.
In that regard, Winter has quite an advantageous position. She grabs attention with her looks, amazes with her dancing, and proves her skills again with her singing.

Thinking about it, this is no easy feat. In idol groups, there are members who specialize in dancing, those responsible for singing, and members who attract attention for their visuals.
Yet, Winter shows her presence in all three areas. What I appreciate most is that she doesn't seem to try too hard to stand out on stage.
Her expressions are natural, and her movements are free of excess. She knows how to draw attention with even the smallest gestures.
There are many pretty people. There are many who dance well and many who sing well. But it's rare to find someone who possesses all three talents and creates their own unique atmosphere. That's why when Winter appears on stage, my eyes are drawn to her.
Now, even while watching Aespa videos, I find myself focusing intently on Winter's dance lines.
It's quite a change to see a middle-aged man analyzing idol dance lines.
But what can I say? If she's good, I have to acknowledge it.
Winter is not just a pretty idol; she is a stage artist who hides significant talent behind her beautiful face.
No, it's not even hidden. The moment she steps on stage, she shows it all.
That's the true charm of Winter, in my opinion.
