When discussing colleges in Monterey, some people surprisingly don't know that California State University is located right next door in Seaside.

The school is called California State University, Monterey Bay, commonly referred to as CSUMB.

It's about a 15-minute drive from downtown Monterey, so you can consider it part of the same living area.

The history of this school is a bit unique. Established in 1994, it is a relatively young university built on the site of the former Fort Ord military base.

After Fort Ord was closed, part of the large military land was converted into a university campus. Therefore, the older buildings have a different atmosphere compared to typical American universities.

Today, it has established itself as a representative four-year public university in the Monterey Bay area. The student population is in the thousands, making it an important option for students looking for colleges in Seaside, Marina, and Monterey.

The majors offered are more diverse than one might expect. Students can study fields such as Business, Computer Science, Marine Science, and Kinesiology, as well as education, social sciences, and health-related areas. In particular, Marine Science showcases the reason the school's name includes Monterey Bay, as it is right next to the world-renowned Monterey Bay marine ecosystem, surrounded by marine research institutions, creating an ideal environment for study.

However, what Korean parents are most curious about is ultimately the tuition.
