While the Republican defeat in this midterm election was somewhat expected, I didn't anticipate that a Democrat would win the governorship in Texas.
In El Paso, where I live, the Democrats won overwhelmingly.
In the 16th Congressional District, incumbent Democratic Representative Veronica Escobar received 71% of the vote.
Republican Adam Bauman only managed 29%.
In the election for the El Paso County Administrator, Democrat Ricardo Samaniego garnered 69%, significantly outpacing the Republican candidate.
This is truly a decisive victory for the Democrats.
However, seeing these results made me want to say something to the Democrats.
Please don't delude yourselves into thinking you won because you did well.
Of course, El Paso is traditionally a stronghold for the Democrats.
It has a large Hispanic population and is deeply connected to Mexico both economically and culturally.
But the fact that Democrats won in El Paso does not mean they have solved all the voters' grievances.
I was someone who had hopes for Trump in the last presidential election.
It wasn't so much that I liked the Republican Party, but rather that the economic situation at the time was very frustrating.
Grocery prices were burdensome, car insurance and housing costs kept rising, and it felt like my paycheck didn't significantly improve my living situation.
I thought that if Trump became president, at least something would change regarding economic issues.
The border issue was similar.
Living in El Paso, you realize that the border is not just a political slogan but a matter that requires practical solutions.
Many people here work and do business by crossing between Mexico and the U.S.
We need to manage the border well while maintaining normal economic activities.
I was hoping for realistic policies.
However, even after Trump regained power, the political scene remains chaotic.
It seems like every day someone is attacking someone else, blaming the opposition, and getting lost in applause from their own side.
What I was hoping for was not that kind of politics.
I didn't want to hear that the economy had improved; I wanted to feel that my life had actually gotten better.
The shock the Republicans received in this election is significant.
In the Texas gubernatorial race, Democrat Gina Hinojosa received about 53% of the vote, defeating incumbent Republican Greg Abbott.
In the federal Senate election, Democrat James Talarico won with about 55%, beating Republican Ken Paxton.
These results in Texas, long considered a Republican stronghold, should not be taken lightly.
However, I hope the Democrats don't get too complacent.
Just because disappointed Republicans chose the Democrats doesn't mean those voters suddenly became progressives.
Some may have voted for the Democrats because they disliked Trump, while others may have accumulated dissatisfaction with the Republican economic policies.
Of course, there are also those who voted for the Democratic candidate because they highly valued their policies and abilities.
The important thing is that the reasons are not all the same.
I want to ask the Democrats as well.
Now that you've won the election, what will you do?
Can you lower housing costs? Can you reduce the burden of health insurance premiums? Can you create an environment where young people can work hard and afford homes?
Now you need to show what you can do well.
These days, it seems that the most exhausted people in American politics are moderate voters like me.
If I criticize the Republicans, I'm treated like a Democrat supporter, and if I criticize the Democrats, I'm labeled as a Trump supporter.
Why must it be one or the other?
I believe border management is important, but I oppose treating immigrants poorly.
I think businesses should grow, but ordinary workers' lives should also improve.
I dislike government waste, but I also oppose cutting essential public services.
Am I the only one in America who thinks this way?
It is a clear fact that the Democrats in El Paso won decisively in this election.
However, it is difficult to explain that victory solely by the Democrats' capabilities.
The Republicans need to reflect on why they lost, and the Democrats should think critically about why they won.
I do not wish for the downfall of either party.
I just hope both parties can compete and make life a little better for ordinary Americans.
Democratic politicians, please don't think that the votes you gained this time are a permanent endorsement.
If voters turned away from the Republicans in disappointment, they can just as easily become disappointed with the Democrats.
You'll understand why Trump was re-elected if you think about it.
The election is over.
Now, I want to see not who speaks well, but who does the job well.
