When talking with neighbors who have kids, the topic of schools often comes up. The Irving Independent School District has several public high schools, and I've compiled information on the three that are most frequently mentioned. You can make your choice based on your situation, but knowing what you're choosing is definitely different from not knowing.

The first is Jack E. Singley Academy. Located at 4601 N. MacArthur Blvd, this school is not just a regular high school but operates as a specialized magnet school. It offers six specialty tracks: Engineering, Information Technology, Culinary Arts, Legal Studies, Health Science, and Arts and Communication, allowing students to focus on their areas of interest with a tailored curriculum. As of the 2024-2025 school year, the total student enrollment is 1,697, and it boasts a graduation rate of 99.7%, which is noteworthy. The dropout rate is also the lowest among Irving ISD high schools at just 0.1%. However, it's important to note that comparing AP-based academic achievement metrics with other schools can be challenging, and the school's strength lies in its career-oriented practical programs.

The second is MacArthur High School. Situated at 3700 N. MacArthur Blvd, it is a historically significant school that opened in 1963. For the 2023-2024 school year, the total student enrollment is 2,596, making it one of the larger schools in Irving ISD. The participation rate in AP classes is an impressive 56%, which is a good sign for students looking for academic challenges. According to US News rankings, it is ranked 753rd in Texas, and due to its location near a major city, the student body is quite diverse. This diversity is a strength, and from a parent's perspective, it's advisable to visit the school to see if it's the right environment for your child.

The third is Nimitz High School. Located at 100 W. Oakdale, it is named after Admiral Chester W. Nimitz of the U.S. Navy. As of the 2024-2025 school year, there are 2,343 students enrolled, with a student-teacher ratio of 15.03:1. It offers a variety of learning tracks, including Pre-AP, Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, gifted programs, special education, CTE, and ESL, allowing students to choose a curriculum that fits their individual levels and needs. As of 2023, 95.8% of students graduated on time. Nimitz is ranked 727th in Texas according to US News.

All three schools are part of Irving ISD and have different strengths. Singley Academy excels in career and technical education, MacArthur has a high AP participation rate, and Nimitz offers a wide range of learning track options.
