Over the years, I've received a lot of questions from people around me asking, "Is it worth living there?"
Now, I can answer that question clearly. I wanted to share this story one last time.
There are indeed people for whom Victorville is the right fit. First, those who want to buy a home in California but find the prices in LA, Irvine, and San Diego unaffordable.
In Victorville, you can buy a single-family home within the same budget. A house with a yard, a garage, and space for kids to play. This is a completely different quality of life compared to a 600-square-foot apartment in LA's Koreatown.
Secondly, there are those who need to build assets early in their immigration journey. Keeping housing costs low to increase savings rates is the most important strategy for new immigrants. Many people save for a down payment while cutting rent costs in Victorville. Families who want to raise their children in a quiet and stable environment also find it suitable.
Those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of big cities and seek an environment focused on education. Within the Victor Valley school district, you can choose good schools, and there is plenty of space for after-school sports or activities.
On the other hand, there are also people for whom it is not a good fit. Those who want an active social life within the Korean community, those who want to be able to walk to Korean restaurants, those who rely on public transportation, and those who need advanced medical services right away may not find Victorville suitable.
The strengths of this city are not accessibility and infrastructure, but space, cost, and tranquility. This is a matter of principle. You first need to know what kind of lifestyle you want. Depending on that answer, Victorville could be the best choice, or it might not be.
However, many people are living quietly and meaningfully here. I am one of them.
