Many of you may be surprised by the relatively low prices when looking for a 1-bedroom in Syracuse.
If you shift your focus from New York City rental prices to this area, you might feel a sense of relief.
The average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in Syracuse is between $1,150 and $1,350.
Compared to the overall average in New York State, this is quite low. Studios are around $950, while 2-bedrooms are around $1,500.
The University Hill area near Syracuse University has listings that exceed $1,400 due to student demand, while areas like DeWitt or Camillus on the outskirts tend to have prices around $1,050. This structure clearly shows a price premium typical of college towns.
Over the past year, rental fluctuations have shown a gradual upward trend. Following the news of the Micron semiconductor factory construction, there has been a noticeable increase in housing and rental demand in the Syracuse area, leading to cautious predictions of continued gradual increases in the future.
Compared to nearby cities, Syracuse's rental prices are almost on par with Rochester and are cheaper than Albany. It is still considered a region with relatively low rental burdens within Upstate New York.
Although the Korean population in Syracuse is not large, a small community has formed around international students and their families at Syracuse University. There are only a few Korean markets in the city, and many rely on Rochester or online delivery.
If you are considering moving with children, I recommend looking into the DeWitt or Fayetteville school district areas, and if you want to be close to the university, consider the University Hill area. Given the lower rental burden, I believe it can be an attractive option for Korean families considering a move from other states.
