This makes it a popular choice for working families with children. Many Korean families also tend to look at these suburban areas rather than downtown Hartford.

If you're willing to go a bit further, Glastonbury is another great option. Located southeast of Hartford, it has an excellent reputation for its school district. It even receives an A+ rating from Niche for its educational environment, and Glastonbury High School is known for its high academic standards.

The challenge, of course, is the housing prices. It's hard to find a place with great schools, a nice neighborhood, a convenient commute, and affordable housing. The home prices in Glastonbury and West Hartford are higher than those in downtown Hartford, reflecting the premium associated with these school districts.

Simsbury is also worth considering for families. Located northwest of Hartford, it feels a bit more suburban than West Hartford. The homes tend to have larger lots, and the area is quiet with plenty of trees, making it appealing for those who dislike the hustle and bustle of city life. Simsbury High School is also one of the well-regarded public schools in Connecticut.

Avon should not be overlooked either. Avon High School is known for its high academic achievement, and the town itself is favored by families who value education. However, it's important to note that Avon has its own town and school district, separate from West Hartford, so it's essential to keep that in mind when searching for a home.

In contrast, public schools in downtown Hartford tend to lag behind the popular suburban districts in overall academic performance. However, it's not necessary to dismiss city schools entirely. Connecticut has magnet schools and specialized programs, providing options beyond the general public schools based on your address.

So, for Korean families moving to Hartford for the first time, I would suggest starting with West Hartford. You can keep your job in Hartford while living in the suburbs. If you prefer a quieter and more relaxed environment, consider Simsbury or Avon, and if school districts are a top priority, compare Glastonbury as well.

And one very important thing is to verify the address. Just because a listing says "near West Hartford" doesn't mean you should feel secure. Hartford and West Hartford may have similar names, but they are completely different towns with different school systems.

Before putting down a deposit on a house you like, make sure to check the exact address on the school district's website to confirm the assigned school. When raising kids and buying a home in the U.S., it seems more important to look at school district boundaries than the kitchen sink. You can change the sink if you spend money, but you can't change the school assigned based on your address.
