The Hub of Education in Dallas: University of Texas at Arlington - Dallas - 1

In Arlington, located between Dallas and Fort Worth, there is a university that is larger than you might expect.

It is the University of Texas at Arlington, commonly referred to as UTA.

At first, I also thought of UT Austin when I heard UT, but UTA is also a public university that belongs to the same University of Texas System.

In simple terms, it is one of the UT system universities operated by the state of Texas.

The student population is quite large, so when you visit the campus, it does not feel like a small local college at all.

One of the most popular majors among Korean parents considering UTA is engineering. There are programs in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and computer-related fields, which have regional advantages. This is because there are many aerospace, defense, semiconductor, telecommunications, and IT companies around Dallas and Fort Worth.

When choosing a college in the U.S., it is very important to consider not just the name of the school but also where you can intern and find employment after graduation. In that regard, UTA's location in the DFW, or Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, is a significant advantage.

Nursing is also hard to overlook when discussing UTA. There is a College of Nursing and Health Innovation, which has a large scale from undergraduate to graduate and online programs. In particular, in the U.S., becoming a nurse requires not only graduating from school but also passing the NCLEX nursing licensure exam. Therefore, students considering nursing should look at both the school's curriculum and the preparation environment for the licensure exam.

There is also a business school. You can choose from accounting, finance, marketing, management, and even an MBA. In the computer field, you can study areas that are in high demand in the job market today, such as Computer Science, Data Science, and Cybersecurity.

The Hub of Education in Dallas: University of Texas at Arlington - Dallas - 2

The school is located in the heart of Arlington, allowing easy access to both Dallas and Fort Worth.

Nearby is AT&T Stadium, the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

Globe Life Field, where the Texas Rangers play baseball, is also close by.

However, for those coming from Korea for the first time, there is one thing to keep in mind. It is more convenient to think of Arlington as a place where you will primarily rely on a car.

Do not assume that you can easily get to downtown Dallas by taking a subway right in front of the school, as you might in Korea. The DFW area is quite large, so whether you have a car or not greatly affects your convenience of living.

Tuition is also important, as in-state tuition for Texas residents is different from the tuition for students from other states or countries. In-state tuition can be understood as a lower tuition rate given to Texas residents who meet certain residency requirements. Therefore, rather than simply judging by the annual tuition number found online, it is essential to first check what tuition criteria apply to you. When you add in dormitory, meal, textbook, and insurance costs, the actual cost of college life is much higher than just tuition.

Additionally, UTA is a school where students from various racial and immigrant backgrounds study, making it relatively easier for Korean students to adapt. The Dallas area has a well-established Korean community with businesses, churches, restaurants, and markets, which is also an advantage in terms of living.

In summary, UTA is a university that should be viewed practically rather than just by its prestigious rankings. It offers many majors that are directly linked to employment, such as engineering, nursing, computer science, and business, and being located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where many companies are concentrated, is a significant advantage.

Especially for Korean students who plan to continue living in Texas and consider employment, it is worth reviewing UTA in terms of tuition, majors, internships, and post-graduation job prospects. In the end, in American universities, what often matters more than just the name of the school is what you major in, where you gain experience, and what job you connect to after graduation.
