I recently saw news that Tesla's robo-taxi is in trial service in Austin, which is a three-hour drive from my home in Dallas.
Now, Tesla has also started an autonomous delivery service from its factory.
"What the... is this really the future?"
There's no one in the driver's seat, and there's not even anyone in the passenger seat.
Yet, the Model Y leaves the Texas factory and drives itself on the highway, overtaking slow cars, gently slowing down at traffic signals, and stopping perfectly in front of the customer's apartment after 30 minutes. I thought it was a movie, but this is an actual service.
Elon Musk says, "Remote control? No. The machine did it all by itself."
The truly scary part is... this isn't just a 'beta test'; it actually happened on real roads.
The autonomous driving that has been said to be 'coming soon' has now truly arrived.
In fact, Tesla's FSD (Full Self-Driving) feature sounds like the ultimate version just by its name.
The eight cameras in the Model Y operate like eyes, and the AI smoothly calculates and decides the driving path on the road.
The possibilities seem endless, and I feel a tremendous change is coming.

In the future, packages, pizzas, and shopping bags will autonomously arrive at your doorstep.
The day when an Amazon box moves by itself and arrives at your door is not far off.
The era of asking the delivery person, "Where are you now?" is over. You just need to open the app.
Of course, it's not complete freedom yet. It's limited to Austin, Texas, and currently only some employees and invited passengers are experiencing it.
It's like they are "testing the waters" to see if it can be practical.
Moreover, it may not yet perfectly handle sudden situations, like a bike suddenly appearing or a box falling on the road.
On the other hand, I can't help but feel a bit bittersweet. What will happen to the jobs of drivers if this spreads nationwide?
If jobs for Uber, regular taxis, buses, and delivery services decrease? While the technology is amazing, social concerns must also be addressed.
But I'm still excited.
Thanks to autonomous driving, we can be 'freed from driving,' reduce accidents on the road, and save time.
There will be fewer moments of cursing to myself while driving or getting angry at cars that don't use their turn signals.
We are entering an era where cars truly 'take care of things for me.'
An era where it's okay to let go of the steering wheel.
But for now... my car doesn't have autonomous driving, so I'm still driving to work myself today.
(Who's going to give me money to buy a Tesla...)
