These days, I really feel that the world has changed a lot, especially when I go outside and see CCTV cameras everywhere.
As soon as I step outside, there are CCTV cameras all around, every car is equipped with a dashcam, and there are even Ring cameras operating in front of houses.
But isn't it strange?
Despite the increase in cameras, we hear less and less about ghost videos or sightings.
When I was a child, even during the era of videotapes, ghost photos and paranormal videos circulated widely.
Now, with 4K resolution and clear images even at night, why are ghosts so quiet?
First, modern cameras are too smart. In the past, if there was a shaky screen, noise, or light blur, it was considered a ghost, but today's cameras automatically erase noise. Dust, insects, and fog are simply filtered out. There's no room for ghosts to appear.
Second, people are too busy. In the past, if a scary video came out at night, the whole neighborhood would buzz, but now, even if a ghost appears, it's just a quick scroll down and it's over. If ghosts rely on attention to survive, it must be tough for them in today's world.
Third, with the increase in dashcams, it has become a dangerous time for ghosts. In the past, they could appear vaguely on dark mountain roads, but now everything from license plates to faces gets captured.
Fourth, to be honest, people are scarier than ghosts these days. Just turning on the news reveals an abundance of crime, accidents, and conflicts. Even if a ghost appears, people won't have the luxury to be surprised. It would just be consumed as another strange video.
Fifth, as technology advances, there's less room for mystery. In the past, anything unexplained was blamed on ghosts, but now experts analyze things immediately. It's just reflections, lens flares, or drones, and that's the end of it. Ghosts must care about their image too, and if they're constantly scientifically debunked, their motivation to appear will decrease.
Sometimes I think, maybe ghosts haven't disappeared, but we live in such a clear world that we can't see them.
We live in an era where everything must be explained, and if there's no evidence, it's not believed. Perhaps ghosts are still somewhere out there, but the image quality is so good that they might actually be invisible. It's scary when things are blurry, but today's cameras capture everything too clearly.
We live in a time where cameras are scarier than ghosts; that's the reality today. In conclusion, it has become a world where even if ghosts appear, it's no longer fun.
With more cameras but less imagination, I wonder if that's the era we are living in.
