Tires are more delicate than you think, and just changing small habits can greatly affect their lifespan and safety.
Check air pressure at least once a month
· Mileage, fuel efficiency, and braking power are all directly related to air pressure.
· It changes significantly with the seasons, so make it a habit to check the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) values.
· Adhering to the values in the vehicle manual is key.
Swap positions every 8,000 to 10,000 km
· Since the wear on the front and back differs, keeping them in the same position will cause one side to wear out faster.
· For front-wheel drive cars, the front tires wear out faster, while for rear-wheel drive cars, the rear tires do, so 'X-pattern rotation' is common.
· Checking wheel alignment at the same time can prevent steering wheel vibrations.
Consider replacing tires if tread depth is below 3mm
· Insert a coin into the tread; if it goes below 3mm, it's time for a replacement.
· Braking distance on wet roads increases significantly, so be sure to check before the rainy season.
· If uneven wear is noticeable, consider checking for alignment or suspension issues.
When parking, avoid perpendicular and the same spot
· Repeatedly pressing the sidewall against the curb weakens it.
· To reduce UV and heat exposure, parking in the shade or using a car cover can help.
· If parking for a long time, it's better to slightly increase the air pressure above normal.
Have a professional check for cracks and elasticity at a service center.
· Even with low mileage, aging occurs, so both 'mileage vs time' should be considered.
Small but consistent maintenance is as important as a seatbelt. How about checking the air pressure before your next drive?
