Argentina Beats England 2-1 to Reach World Cup Final - Buena Park - 1

It was really great to be able to watch a big World Cup match in the U.S. I watched the World Cup semifinal between Argentina and England until the end, switching duties with my wife.

After watching the game, the first thought that came to mind was, "Messi is indeed Messi."

Although he didn't score in this match, both key moments that decided the game started with Messi's feet.

In the 40th minute of the second half, Enzo Fernandez's equalizer was created after Messi momentarily drew the defense and made a precise pass. And in stoppage time, it was even more amazing. The cross from the right side was textbook perfect.

From the moment he evaded the defender, he scanned the field and the direction of the ball was flawless, leaving Lautaro Martinez in a position where he just had to nod it in.

Watching plays like this makes you realize why he is called the best player in the world.

Even as he ages and plays more of a veteran role, his ability to read the game and make decisive passes is still at the highest level.

In this match, Argentina moved like a pack of wolves.

When one player had the ball, two or three would press simultaneously, and when transitioning to attack, multiple players would penetrate into open spaces.

While individual skills were impressive, the teamwork was truly remarkable. The English players struggled to mount an attack as they were immediately pressured every time they got the ball.

On the other hand, England was quite disappointing.

In the early part of the second half, when they scored first, I thought, "Today, England is going to win."

The cross from Morgan Rogers and the finish from Anthony Gordon were perfect.

However, right after taking a 1-0 lead, they increased their defensive numbers and dropped their line too deep.

Under the coach's orders, they began what is commonly referred to as 'parking the bus.'

But the opponent was Argentina... They underestimated their rival.

It was too strong a team to hold out for 90 minutes.

By continuously giving up the ball and only defending, they eventually ran out of energy, while Argentina kept creating opportunities.

Mac Allister's shot hit the post, and Nico Gonzalez's header was barely saved. The goalkeeper seemed to have made 3-4 super saves.

Somehow, even before the equalizer, the momentum had completely shifted to Argentina.....

Finally, in the 40th minute of the second half, the equalizer.

And in stoppage time, the comeback goal!

This match showed once again that the most dangerous score in soccer is 1-0.

After the game, the reactions from British media and fans were quite intense.

There was criticism of the coach's overly passive tactics after taking the lead.

Of course, it could be hindsight, but many felt that turning defensive too early actually gave Argentina more time to attack.

On the other hand, Argentina played like defending champions.

They proved once again that their victory in the 2022 Qatar World Cup was no fluke.

Especially Messi added two assists in this match, putting him back in the lead for the Golden Boot race.

Now, the final against Spain is left.

Spain has recorded the fewest goals conceded in this tournament, while Argentina's strengths are their teamwork and Messi's experience.

Personally, based on recent performances, it's really hard to predict the outcome.

However, one thing is certain.

I feel lucky just to be able to watch such a final as a soccer fan.

Whether Messi will lift the World Cup trophy once again or if Spain will become the new champion is something I am already looking forward to.

Watching this semifinal made me realize that the player who saves his teammates in crucial moments ultimately leads the team to the final, and Messi was the world's best playmaker until the very last moment.
