San Antonio International Airport is a great airport because it is not overwhelmingly large.
The impression I had when I first used this place was that it was 'simple and quiet.' When an airport is too big, it takes a long time just to find the departure gate, and the security line seems endless.
However, San Antonio Airport has almost none of that stress.
The flow from the entrance to the check-in counter and then to the gate is straightforward, which is comforting. Usually, when you exit an airport, you can easily catch an Uber or get back into your car from the parking lot, so thinking back to the times I had to struggle to take a shuttle to the Uber-only parking area at LAX makes me feel happy.
For an airport of San Antonio's size, it has a really efficient structure. There are only two terminals, so there's no confusion about where to go. Terminal A mainly serves domestic flights, while Terminal B operates with some major airlines, and both are conveniently a 5-minute walk apart. Compared to the massive Denver International Airport, where I had to run around to catch a connecting flight, this place is truly comfortable.
After leisurely grabbing a cup of coffee, boarding time approaches quickly. Compared to large airports, the number of restaurants and duty-free shops is not many, which is actually a good advantage for me. There are only the necessary stores without an overly commercial feel, making it calm.

Overall, instead of the noisy hustle and bustle, the sounds of airplane engines and soft music fill the airport, and I like that atmosphere.
The waiting areas are clean and well-maintained. One morning, while departing on an early flight, I enjoyed my coffee while looking at the runway before the sun had fully risen, and that tranquility was quite impressive.
I felt that this airport does not make people anxious. The departure process is quick, and it's rare to see anyone running through the airport; everyone seems relaxed. During less busy times, it takes less than 10 minutes to get through security. The TSA staff are friendly, and they don't work in a rushed manner like at airports in larger cities. Since the city of San Antonio has an overall relaxed atmosphere, the airport reflects that character.
These days, there are talks of airport expansion, with plans to build Terminal C and increase the number of gates. Of course, as the city grows and more tourists come, the airport will need to grow too, but personally, I think this size is just right.
If it gets too big, I worry that the unique charm of San Antonio's 'humble airport' will disappear. Large airports tend to make people feel mechanical, and the flow becomes complicated, making it feel like you've entered a gigantic shopping mall.
For me, San Antonio Airport is not just a place to catch a flight; it is a clean and comfortable space that embodies the character of the city. It is not complicated, does not tire you out with crowds, and has a human touch. That's why I think San Antonio Airport is the best right now.
