There is a story about a person I met in New Jersey a long time ago. This person, who was of Indian descent, did not believe that the coincidences happening in this world were just random occurrences.
He firmly believed that there was some kind of agency in the heavens that controlled all the coincidences in the lives of people living in this world. He didn't know the name, but he would seriously say that there was a department like a 'Coincidence Management Bureau' up there somewhere that arranged people's lives.
I found it interesting because I was very curious about the concepts of causality and causality calculators that appear in the webtoon Denma.
According to him, the people we meet by chance on the street, the opportunities that arise at just the right time, and the accidents we narrowly avoid are all results coordinated by that agency. He gave examples from various scenes in his own life.
At a point when his business had completely failed and he had nowhere else to go, he moved to another city thanks to a friend he met by chance on the subway, which eventually led to his current job. He recalled that moment and expressed, "That was not a coincidence, but an arrangement."
What was particularly interesting about this person was that he believed even bad things were part of that agency's design. He had to spend several months in the hospital due to a major accident, but he said that because of that, he discovered a disease he would have lived his whole life without knowing. He looked at the ceiling of his hospital room and realized, "Ah, this was a signal to stop here." While most people blame their misfortunes, he accepted his misfortunes as a kind of guidepost.
His attitude towards life was also unique. When things were going well, he would say, "The arrangement is good right now," and when things went wrong, he would say, "I guess it's being adjusted," without getting anxious. Before making important decisions, he would observe the flow for several days without doing anything and then decide. He called this communication, not waiting. He believed that signals were being sent down from above, and that he needed to read them.
People around him were half amused and half intrigued, but strangely, his life never went to the worst extremes. He wasn't a wealthy person, but he always managed to make a living, and he avoided extreme disasters in his relationships. He described himself not as a lucky person, but as someone who was well-arranged.
Listening to this person's story, I sometimes think the same way. If all the coincidences in the world were truly random, there are too many moments that fit perfectly. We meet the people we need to meet, avoid the accidents we should steer clear of, and events that seemed like failures can become turning points years later.
This man always ended by saying, "The heavenly agency cannot be controlled by us, but we cannot reject it either. We just shouldn't ignore the signals."
Even now, when things go wrong, I unconsciously think of what he said.
Ah, right now is a time when the arrangement of my life priorities or tasks is changing.
