The closest major city is Springfield, MA. It's about 25 miles north of Hartford and can be reached in about 30 minutes by car. As the third-largest city in Massachusetts, it is home to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. There are also Korean markets and restaurants, and it is economically closely connected to Hartford. New Britain, CT, is about 10 miles southwest of Hartford, taking about 10 to 15 minutes to get there. It is an industrial city with a deep history of Polish and Eastern European immigration, and the cost of living is generally lower than in Hartford, so many people work in Hartford but live in New Britain.

Middletown, CT, is located about 15 miles south of Hartford. It is a college town with Wesleyan University, known for its vibrant art scene and café culture, offering a quiet yet sophisticated atmosphere. New Haven, CT, is about 40 miles south of Hartford, taking around 40 to 45 minutes to reach. This port city on the Connecticut coast is known for its submarine base and the Coast Guard Academy, and it is a popular destination for beachgoers in the summer. Lastly, Worcester, MA, is about 50 miles northeast of Hartford. As the second-largest city in Massachusetts, it is home to several universities, including Clark University and WPI, and has a significant Korean community.

Hartford itself is a small city, but looking around, you can feel that it is not an isolated place. It's about a 2-hour drive to New York and also about 2 hours to Boston. Thanks to its position as a mid-hub on the East Coast, living in Hartford allows you to visit various cities for weekend outings, which is a great advantage. I really appreciate that aspect.
