Koreans in Georgia often say, "Living in Atlanta makes Korea feel close."
There has always been a direct flight, and until 2019, the Incheon (ICN) - Atlanta (ATL) route regularly featured the A380.
Just seeing that huge airplane land at the airport made people feel a sense of pride.
It's like saying, "We really live in a big city connected directly to Korea."
The A380 was commonly referred to as a 'hotel in the sky.' With its two-story structure, spacious seats, quiet cabin, and direct flights to Korea, it was a perfect combination.
Not only for travel or business trips, but the A380 also provided comfort and stability when parents visited or students traveled back and forth.
Especially on long-haul flights, the generous seat spacing and smooth takeoffs and landings definitely stood out compared to other aircraft.
Among the Korean community in Atlanta, there were many evaluations of it as a "route where you don't have to suffer comfortably."
However, after 2019, Korean Air began to reduce A380 operations, and during the route adjustment process, regular flights to Atlanta were suspended.
Instead, high-end long-haul aircraft like the B777-300ER and B747-8 are now in operation.
Of course, these aircraft are also spacious and stable. But those who experienced the 'A380 era' tend to miss those days.
Some say, "It felt like a brag to fly to Korea on that big airplane..."
Still, the important thing is that Korean Air continues to operate direct flights every day.
Moreover, with code-sharing with Delta Airlines, there are many options for accumulating mileage and booking.
In fact, the feeling of being connected to Korea while living abroad starts with a single flight, right?
The ability to go directly to Incheon without worrying about transfers is not just a convenience; it provides a sense of stability in life.
So these days, newly settled Koreans in Atlanta say things like,
"If the housing prices are good, the school district is decent, and it's easy to travel to Korea, isn't that enough?"
Even though the A380 no longer comes, many Koreans have a special affection for this direct flight route connecting Korea and Georgia, hoping for the day when a large aircraft like the A380 will return.
