I didn't initially realize how vast and complex the area known as Queens Village is.
It's been quite a while since I moved here, and I still get confused sometimes, so I want to take this opportunity to clarify things. Queens Village is not a legal district but an unofficial neighborhood within the Queens Borough of New York City, and there are no official boundary lines drawn on the map.
In a broad sense, 'Queens Village' generally includes the area from Union Turnpike to the north, Jamaica Avenue to the south, the Queens County-Nassau County border to the east, and Savanna Meadows to the west. However, the scope used in real estate listings or community materials varies slightly from source to source. For example, some include parts of Hollis Hills or Bellerose as part of the Queens Village area, while others separate them.
In terms of ZIP codes, the Queens Village area primarily uses the three codes 11427, 11428, and 11429. 11427 corresponds to the center of Queens Village, 11428 covers the northern part of Queens Village and Hollis Hills, and 11429 pertains to the southern part of Queens Village and the Jamaica border area. These ZIP code distinctions significantly impact not only mail delivery but also school district assignments, insurance rates, and real estate price analysis.
From an administrative perspective, Queens Village falls under the jurisdiction of New York City Community Board 13 (CB13). CB13 encompasses not only Queens Village but also Jamaica Estates, Hollis Hills, Bellerose, and parts of Floral Park. The community board consists of appointed resident representatives, no more than 50, who are responsible for land use reviews, budget priority recommendations, and public discussions of local issues. While it has no legal authority, it serves as an important channel for formalizing local public opinion.
In terms of school districts, it belongs to NYC School District 28. District 28 covers a fairly large area, including Jamaica, Hollis, and Richmond Hill, in addition to Queens Village. Notable public schools in Queens Village include PS 34, PS 36, and PS 147, while middle schools include MS 8, and high schools like Cambridge School of Technology are known to be attended by students from this area.
Regarding electoral districts, in addition to the previously mentioned New York City Council District 23, it also falls under New York State Assembly District 27 and New York State Senate District 11. In terms of the U.S. Congress, it is part of New York's 5th Congressional District (NY-05). Since the electoral district classification determines where you vote when you register, it's important to keep your address registration up to date. Every time the topic of gerrymandering comes up in the American drama
