These days, when you want to buy a homemade burger at a restaurant, you can't help but sigh at the prices. It used to be that grabbing a burger for a quick meal felt easy, but now the price of a homemade burger is almost the same as a proper meal, so I thought, why not make it at home? That's how I started making burgers at home, and honestly, it's not that complicated, and the taste is way better than what you get outside, so now I find myself checking the fridge every weekend.
For the meat, I recommend getting ground beef with an 80/20 ratio; too lean makes it dry, and too fatty makes it greasy. Just add a little salt and pepper, gently form the patties, and press the center slightly so they don't puff up while cooking. Preheat the pan well, and when you place the patties in, you'll hear a sizzle as the outside sears. Don't touch them until one side is nicely browned before flipping to keep the juices in.
After flipping the well-cooked patties, add cheese and cover with a lid to melt it. I usually mix American cheese and cheddar, which pairs well with the meat. For the buns, don't just use them as is; slice them in half, butter them, and lightly toast them in the pan to make the outside crispy and the inside moist, enhancing the burger experience.
And here's the real kicker: finely chop tomatoes, green peppers, and cilantro, grill them lightly with a bit of cheese, and place them on top of the patty. It tastes amazing, bringing out the aroma and flavor to the point where it feels like you're eating a high-end California-style burger.
You can add raw onions or sauté them for a sweeter taste. For the sauce, mix ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard, adding a bit of chopped pickles and onions to avoid that homemade taste. Spread sauce on the bottom bun, layer with lettuce, patty, cheese, tomato, onion, and the grilled tomato, green pepper, cilantro, and cheese combo, then add more sauce and top with the other bun to finish.
When you make it yourself and take a bite, you really understand why making it at home is the way to go! Haha.
The savory beef juices with melted cheese, fresh and fragrant vegetables, and warm bread make it far more satisfying and filling than a burger you buy outside.
With the smell of meat grilling in the kitchen and the sizzling sound, cracking open a beer brings a little happiness, and in today's world, having even this small joy makes it bearable.
Try making it this weekend; the kids and your husband will love it. Once you start making burgers at home, you won't want to buy them outside anymore.
