The name Reno is short, but the story behind the city name is long.

The nickname "The Biggest Little City in the World" is related to the unique history of this city.

Reno was established in 1868 when the railroad was laid. At that time, it was just a small town in the middle of the desert, but it gradually took shape as a city, developing into a transportation hub connecting California and Utah.

However, the real reason Reno became famous was in the early 20th century, when it was known as the 'Divorce Capital' of the United States. At that time, Nevada was the fastest place in the U.S. to get a divorce, where the process that took years in other states could be completed in just 6 weeks of residency in Reno.

Thanks to this, Hollywood actors and wealthy individuals flocked to Reno to stay briefly and handle their divorces, transforming Reno into a place of unique culture and wealth. But the real turning point for Reno was the legalization of casinos. In 1931, when Nevada legalized gambling, Reno suddenly emerged as the gambling center of the American West.

Reno was the city that blossomed with casino culture long before Las Vegas. I didn't even know that fact, haha.

At that time, there was a saying in America that 'Reno is better than Vegas,' and this small city in northern Nevada received national attention. The reason Reno became known as "The Biggest Little City in the World" also originated from this period.

The city itself is not large, but once you enter, it has entertainment and culture comparable to a big city. Hotels, casinos, entertainment shows, lake tours, and even car racing... the fact that it is a small city with everything left a strong impression on people.

Therefore, there is still a neon arch in front of the city hall. "RENO: The Biggest Little City in the World." This phrase has become a symbol of Reno's identity.

Near Reno is Lake Tahoe, where you can enjoy skiing in winter and hiking and kayaking in summer. Thanks to this scenery, Reno is also popular as a tourist and leisure city.

It is not a city filled with flashy neon signs like Las Vegas, nor is it as complicated as San Francisco. Instead, it is a place where you can feel the true charm of Nevada in a somewhat relaxed and romantic atmosphere.

These days, Reno is gaining attention again as a 'small but strong city.' IT companies and startups are flocking in, and with the massive Tesla Gigafactory nearby, the industrial structure is changing rapidly. Once a gambling city, it is now transforming into a city where technology and art coexist.
