One important part of the history of the LA Lakers is the fact that they originally started in Detroit.

Founded in 1946, the Detroit Gems were part of the NBL (National Basketball League) and had a really tough season, recording only 4 wins out of 44 games. The team's performance was so poor that the owner, Mori Winston, thought he had to sell the team. At that time, a sports journalist named Sid Hartman appeared.

Hartman was a quite influential sports journalist in the Minnesota area, and he persuaded two businessmen, Maurice Chaplin and Ben Berger, to take over the team. Chaplin was an ice show businessman, and Ben Berger was a theater businessman. Thus, the Detroit Gems moved their home base to Minneapolis in the summer of 1947, and from then on, they started anew under the name 'Minnesota Lakers.'

The name 'Lakers' was given because it was associated with the 'lakes' in the Minnesota area. Later, the current LA 'Lakers' got their name when the Minnesota Lakers moved to LA in 1960.

The biggest stars in the history of this team include Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and more recently, LeBron James. Magic Johnson led the 'Showtime' basketball of the 1980s, bringing the Lakers to five championships. The appeal of basketball at that time was literally a 'show.' Fast pace, flashy passes, and games filled with dunks! The team led by Magic was an unforgettable era for basketball fans.

Then, from the late 1990s to the early 2000s, the duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal was incredibly powerful. Kobe became a legend by leading the Lakers to three consecutive championships in the early 2000s, and even after parting ways with Shaquille, he led the team to two more championships, driving LA basketball. His incredible skills and clutch ability in games were recognized by everyone.

After that, with LeBron James joining the team in 2018, they entered a new golden age, and in 2020, they once again became champions, continuing that historic moment. The 2020 championship was a unique situation where they won during the COVID-19 pandemic, with games being suspended and played without fans.
