When looking at the rankings of the largest hotels in the world, two names from Las Vegas appear in the top tier.
Not just large, but they are the biggest in the entire world. Ironically, the fact that the two largest hotels are located in a desert city with a population of just over 2 million really reflects the character of Las Vegas.
The first is The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. It ranks as the second largest hotel in the world based on the number of rooms in a single complex, boasting a total of 7,100 suites. What's important here is the term "suite."
The most basic room size, which corresponds to a standard room in a typical hotel, starts at 650 to 720 square feet (about 60 to 67 square meters). The Venetian's basic room is quite spacious, comparable to a one-bedroom apartment in a regular hotel!
Designed with the concept of Venice, Italy, the interior features canals, gondolas, and arched ceilings, along with over 30 restaurants and a large shopping mall, the Grand Canal Shoppes, all housed within the building. If you take a tour, you'll find that this building, which opened in 1999 with an investment of about $1.5 billion, now combines with the Palazzo to form one massive complex.

The second is MGM Grand. It has 4,997 guest rooms, and when combined with the adjacent Signature, the total reaches a staggering 6,488.
At this point, it's more accurate to consider it a small city rather than just a hotel. It opened in 1993 and features four 30-story towers, and once inside, many people find themselves lost trying to navigate.
The casino is also quite impressive. It spans about 144,000 square feet, with over 1,200 slot machines and more than 100 table games. The flow of people never stops, day or night. The pool area is almost at a water park level, covering 6.5 acres with pools, jacuzzis, and even artificial waterfalls, making it unnecessary to leave the hotel during the summer.
Room rates can vary significantly depending on the time. During the off-peak weekdays, basic rooms can be found for around $70 to $120, while on weekends or during event seasons, prices can rise to $200 to $350. During major events like CES, it's common for rates to exceed $400. Additionally, a resort fee of about $45 per day is charged separately. In the past, there was a saying that you could "sleep cheaply and fill up at the buffet," but now, both accommodation and food costs have generally increased, making the previous value-for-money feel much less prominent.
Still, MGM Grand remains one of the iconic hotels in Las Vegas. With its size, location, and facilities, it's a place worth staying at for first-time visitors.
The commonality between the two hotels is that they are not just places to sleep. Even if you stay for several days, you can eat, shop, watch shows, and enjoy spas without ever leaving the building. Ironically, it's the only city where you could say, "I just stayed in my room" while visiting Las Vegas.
This is because the hotels themselves are like small cities. Both hotels feature 24-hour casinos and restaurants run by world-renowned chefs, making them popular among food travelers. If you're visiting Las Vegas for the first time or planning a special trip, these two places are definitely worth considering.
