If you've decided to move to Chino, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the administrative tasks you need to handle before and after the move.
Let's start with the preparations before the move. First, once your address is confirmed, check the school assignment right away.
It's crucial to verify the school assigned based on your address on the CVUSD website. Next, you need to apply for utilities (electricity, gas, water, internet) based on your new address. Check with the relevant agencies for SCE electricity, SoCalGas gas, and water services. It's best to apply a week or two before your move.
There are also administrative tasks to handle after the move. You need to apply for a change of address for your driver's license at the DMV within 10 days of moving to California.
Vehicle registration also needs to be updated within 20 days of moving to California. If you have children, make sure to complete their school registration quickly. The required documents include proof of residency (lease agreement or utility bill), vaccination records, and previous school transcripts. You may also need to reapply for health insurance through Covered California based on your new address.
There's also a checklist for settling in. This includes designating a primary care physician (PCP), saving emergency contacts, locating the nearest ER, connecting with Korean churches and community groups, and checking the garbage collection schedule. From a financial stability perspective, make sure to budget adequately for initial expenses such as moving costs, deposits, and utility setup fees.
