Honeymoon in Hawaii? Oh my, wasn't that a dream that every old lady once wished for?

In our generation, Hawaii was truly the ultimate honeymoon destination.

It wasn't a time when overseas travel was as common as it is now.

After the wedding, those who flew from Gimpo Airport to Hawaii were considered to have "made it".

The excitement of packing up and heading to the airport right after the wedding is something words can't fully express.

Why was Hawaii so popular? The scenery of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head felt like a scene from a movie.

Looking at the blue sea visible through the tropical trees made me feel, "Wow, I'm really here," and my heart raced.

Plus, it was a must to stop by the Mid-Pacific Shopping Center to buy aloha shirts and bring back lots of macadamia chocolates.

When I returned home and handed out gifts to relatives, everyone looked at me with envy.

Back then, most honeymoons were package tours. Free travel? That was unimaginable.

A Korean guide would say, "Look here~ Look there~" and lead us around as a group.

On the first day, we took commemorative photos at Waikiki Beach, on the second day we visited the Polynesian Cultural Center to watch traditional dances, and on the third day we shopped till we dropped...

The itinerary was strictly set. But that was part of the fun.

In fact, back then, it was hard to earn more than 1.5 million won a month, so going to Hawaii was a symbol of luxury.

It subtly showed that "we're doing well".

When I got home and adults asked, "You went to Hawaii, right? How was it?" that feeling was just wonderful.

But it wasn't just bragging; it truly felt like a honeymoon. Spending time alone at the resort made me realize, "Ah, we are a couple now."

The hotel was also important. Staying at hotels like Sheraton Waikiki or Halekulani was something to boast about to those around us.

We flew with Korean Air or Asiana, and from the moment I boarded the plane to Hawaii, I already felt successful.

And when I got home and looked through the album, it was really funny.

Photos of us wearing matching aloha shirts and smiling brightly, pictures taken at the hotel pool, and moments shopping at the duty-free store at the airport...

The pure excitement of that time remains intact. I also remember being busy handing out macadamia chocolate boxes.

Now, there are so many travel destinations for young people to choose from.

Europe, the Maldives, Japan, Bali... the options are endless.

Honestly, I feel a bit envious. But the excitement of Hawaii from our time was something that couldn't be compared to any other destination.

That thrill from back then is something I can't feel anywhere else again.

Even now, whenever Hawaii is mentioned, my heart feels a little tight.
