What is the hardest part of dieting?
Lack of exercise? Appetite? In fact, what's even more powerful is... when your mouth feels bored and you crave snacks.
At times like this, you want to eat something, but anything you grab is a calorie bomb...
If you keep holding back, it leads to stress, and eventually, you find yourself boiling ramen or ordering late-night snacks before bed.
Here are some low-calorie snacks that are good to know for such moments.
These are not just low in calories, but they are 'snacks that keep you feeling full without worrying about calories.'
They won't make you gain weight and will boost your mood, true survival strategy items.
Today, I will casually introduce a few low-calorie snacks that you can easily find at American grocery stores.
I'm also using these to stick to my diet. It's not about cutting out snacks, but choosing them wisely.
Air-Popped Popcorn
This is a truly amazing snack.
You get 3 cups for under 100 kcal.
This is based on pure air-popped without butter, so it's completely different from movie theater popcorn. It has a crunchy texture that blows away stress when your mouth feels bored. At home, I just put popcorn in the air fryer and pop it with hot air. By the way, microwave popcorn tastes good but has butter, oil, and additives, so the calories are double.
Greek Yogurt + Berries
This is almost the official snack for dieters.
Just a little bit of blueberries or raspberries on unsweetened plain yogurt creates fullness and a refreshing taste.
It has a lot of protein, so even if I only eat a spoonful, strangely, I feel less hungry. The calories are between 100-150 kcal. Sometimes, eating a few almonds with it enhances the flavor.
Boiled Eggs
This is a classic.
The combination of protein and fat can keep you full for a surprisingly long time.
If you eat only the egg white without the yolk, it's just 17 kcal.
I sometimes sprinkle pepper on it and eat it with black coffee. It's oddly delicious.
Dark Chocolate
This is the best when your sugar drops.
Look for products with over 70% cocoa content and minimal sugar, like Lily's or Hu Kitchen.
One piece has about 50-80 kcal, and it effectively curbs sugar cravings.
Thanks to polyphenols, it also has antioxidant effects, so it feels somewhat healthy. Just remember to eat it in moderation.
Low-Fat String Cheese
When you're craving something salty, pull this out.
It's low in carbs and rich in protein... the salty and nutty combo is surprisingly addictive.
Mushroom, Cucumber, Celery Sticks + Hummus
Hummus is very useful as it contains healthy fats and protein.
Vegetables have almost no calories, so dipping cucumbers, celery, or mushrooms in it
is fun to crunch, fills you up a bit, and cleanses your palate.
Frozen Fruit Ice Balls
This is a snack I've been into lately.
Cut fruits like mango, strawberries, and bananas into bite-sized pieces and freeze them.
They are refreshingly icy and burst with juice!
Even if you eat a cup, it's under 70 kcal, so you can enjoy it without worry.
Snacks are not the problem.
The problem is "the moment you grab anything without thinking."
Low-calorie snacks are not a weapon of self-control, but a technique for sustainable satisfaction.
Set these snacks neatly in one section of your fridge and every time you wonder, "What should I eat?" try grabbing one.
Today, one string cheese, tomorrow, a spoonful of yogurt.
And on the weekend, finish off with frozen fruit for dessert.
You gain less weight, feel better, and isn't that the essence of dieting?
