The North Valley area, located north of Reno, is also worth noting. Specifically, this includes the area north of 4th Street and around Lemmon Valley. This area is about a 10 to 15-minute drive from downtown Reno and has many rental listings for single-family homes or townhouses, making it suitable for families. For two-bedroom units, the rent typically ranges from $1,400 to $1,800, and there are often listings with large yards. However, public transportation is weaker than in downtown, so living here without a car can be somewhat inconvenient.

The Holiday Lane and McKen Park areas to the west of Reno are also practical options. This area is close to UNR (University of Nevada, Reno) and is home to many students and young professionals. The turnover of rental listings is relatively fast, so if you search at the right time, you can find good deals. One-bedroom listings are available in the $1,100 to $1,400 range, and, being near the school, there are various restaurants, cafes, and amenities clustered together.

South Reno is a relatively new development area with many newly built apartment complexes. This area features resort-style complexes with good facilities, but the rent tends to be somewhat higher. However, if you head further out towards Virginia City, there are relatively affordable townhouse complexes available. If your job is in South Reno, it might be worth considering to reduce your commute distance.
