It's a well-known fact that rent in Miami is expensive, but that doesn't mean you have to give up on living in Miami.
There are neighborhoods where you can live within a reasonable budget. However, some compromises may be necessary.
I've honestly compiled areas in Miami where you can live with relatively reasonable rent.
The first areas to mention are Homestead and Florida City. Located about 40 miles (approximately 64 kilometers) south of downtown Miami, these areas have some of the lowest rents in Miami-Dade County. You can find apartments in the range of $1,200 to $1,600 for a one-bedroom. They are close to Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park, and the Florida Keys, offering a good natural environment.
The downside is that commuting to downtown Miami takes a lot of time, and public transportation is almost non-existent, making a car essential. This area is suitable for those who can work from home or work within Homestead.
Miami Gardens is a predominantly African American residential area located north of Miami, with one-bedroom rents ranging from $1,400 to $1,900.
Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins, is located in this area. The safety levels can vary within the area, so it's advisable to check the surroundings of specific apartment complexes.
Hialeah is a large Latino city located northwest of Miami. It has a significant population of Central American immigrants, including Cubans and Nicaraguans, and Spanish is the everyday language. The rent for a one-bedroom is significantly lower than in downtown Miami, ranging from $1,500 to $2,000. It's located north of Miami Airport, providing decent access to Doral and downtown.
While there is almost no Korean infrastructure for residents, and the Spanish-speaking environment is strong, it can be considered if saving on living expenses is a priority. North Miami and North Miami Beach are areas in the northern part of Miami-Dade County, with one-bedroom rents ranging from $1,600 to $2,200. They are close to Aventura Mall and about a 20-minute drive to South Beach, making them relatively accessible. Some Koreans also reside in these areas.
As a practical tip, the most effective way to find reasonable rent in Miami is to target newly built large apartment complexes.
Landlords may offer the first month free or rental incentives to boost initial occupancy rates, so keeping an eye on listings for new complexes can help you find good deals. Visiting the site and checking out the neighborhood is just as important as online research.
