There are quite clear commonalities in why people in the U.S. have affection for their states.

- A safe and pleasant environment, natural scenery, weather, and air quality significantly impact living satisfaction.

- A sense of belonging to the community, community spirit, bonds with people in the area, close relationships, and active community activities increase affection.

- Economic stability and opportunities, job security, cost of living, tax burden, and real estate prices are also major factors determining satisfaction with a state. This is one reason why states like Texas, with relatively low housing prices and lower tax burdens, are preferred.
