Living in Los Angeles,
there are moments when reality and art strangely overlap.
The path I always pass on my way to and from work.
The place where the shining metal exterior reflects the sky with its graceful curves.
Walt Disney Concert Hall.
I pass in front of this building almost every day.
Between my company and home, this place, a work of the famous architect Frank Gehry,
and the home of the LA Philharmonic,
I have passed by it dozens, hundreds of times,
but I have never been inside.
"Someday, I will definitely go."
"Should I check for tickets this weekend?"
I have repeated such words for years.
But that 'someday' always got pushed to next month, next year, and then the year after.
This year, I had this thought.
"Why do I keep postponing good things?"
Good food, good people, good experiences...
Like precious dishes I plan to use later when they are more valuable,
I had been keeping the joys of my life on display only.
So I made a resolution.
This year, I will definitely go see a performance by the LA Philharmonic.
Let's go inside that concert hall where I have only admired from the outside,
and experience it.
When I told my wife about this resolution,
her eyes sparkled as she said, "Really? Finally?"
Neither of us is deeply knowledgeable about classical music,
but we love the power of live music,
and we have longed for the thrill of the stage and the breath of the audience.
I went to the official website of Disney Hall
and carefully checked the schedule for this season's LA Philharmonic performances.
Names of unfamiliar composers, familiar classical pieces,
and sometimes programs featuring film music, jazz, and pop collaborations
made my wife and me excited like children.
"They have a complete Beethoven symphony series!"
"Oh, there's a day for John Williams' music too!"
"I need to book this before it sells out!"
We created a ticket reservation calendar
and chose performances we could attend together
despite our busy schedules.
We coordinated the day to leave the kids with my parents,
and even decided where to eat after the performance.
What started as a plan to just see one concert
began to bring vitality back into our lives.
In fact, Disney Hall is not just a beautiful building.
Inside, countless arts resonate every day.
Even knowing that, I always turned away, using busyness as an excuse.
But thinking back,
the truly important things have always been there.
The music that enriches our lives,
the nights that bring us to hold each other's hands again,
and the small resolutions of "let's really do it this time."
I no longer want to postpone.
This year, or rather as soon as possible,
I will enter the Walt Disney Concert Hall with my wife.
I will immerse myself in that magnificent sound,
and following the fingertips of the conductor in a suit,
our emotions will gradually sway as well.
It's not too late.
No, perhaps now is the most suitable age.
My heart is still flexible,
the weight of life has become somewhat familiar,
and if there is an emotion to feel with a loved one,
there is no reason to postpone it any longer.
In 2025, this year is
the year I will attend my first performance at Disney Hall.
In that beautiful building I pass by every day,
I will age together with music.
That is the LA life I have dreamed of.
