Although George Clooney is famous for his handsome looks and gentlemanly image, he wasn't a billionaire until now.
His real 'life turnaround' happened not through movies but because his tequila company was sold.
He created a tequila brand called 'Casamigos' and later sold it for $1 billion (1.4 trillion won).
Initially, he received $700 million in cash, with an additional $300 million if sales exceeded a certain level. Clooney stated in an interview, "We didn't start this to make money. We just made it because we wanted to drink it ourselves," and that resonated with people.
It wasn't originally intended as a business; it started when he, along with close friends Randy Gerber (husband of model Cindy Crawford) and real estate developer Mike Meldman, built a vacation home in Mexico and began hanging out there. All three loved tequila, but they found the liquor sold in stores didn't suit their taste.
There was no tequila that was 'smooth and easy to drink anywhere' that met their preferences; it was either too strong or had an overpowering flavor.
So they thought, "Why don't we make one ourselves?" and actually contacted a distillery in Mexico to start making tequila just for themselves. Initially, it was meant for friends, but word of mouth began to spread.
The taste was so smooth that it was dubbed 'hangover-free tequila.' Within a few years, it became a staple in bars and restaurants across the United States, even at celebrity parties.
People started asking, "Where can I buy this?" and it became famous, leading to a rapid depletion of stock. Eventually, the distillery told them, "You have so many orders that this can no longer be for personal use; it needs to be registered for commercial use."
Thus, in 2013, they officially launched the brand. The name 'Casamigos' means 'house of friends,' derived from the name of the vacation home they shared.

The advertising was humorous. While typical tequila ads feature glamorous models or celebrities, Clooney shot his with friends in a playful manner.
They aimed for a luxurious yet relaxed atmosphere, and the actual success point was that 'comfort.'
It's an expensive tequila, but it has a taste that can be enjoyed without pressure, plus George Clooney's face as the brand image adds to its credibility.
As the brand quickly spread to bars and restaurants across the U.S., in 2017, the global liquor company Diageo acquired it for $1 billion.
Clooney personally pocketed over $300 million, and his two partners made similar amounts.
Many Hollywood stars have created liquor brands, but most either fail or only lend their names.
However, Clooney personally tested everything from the process to the taste, improving its quality by drinking it daily with friends. This led to it being recognized as a 'brand made by the real deal.' Nowadays, George Clooney shines even brighter as a successful businessman than as an actor.
Ultimately, George Clooney seems to show that the greatest success in life comes not from calculations but from enjoying the journey.
