President Donald Trump announced that he would declare a "national energy emergency" as soon as he took office. This is truly an unprecedented measure, as it is the first time the U.S. government has declared an energy-related emergency in this manner. Trump expressed a strong intention to utilize the vast oil and gas resources that the U.S. possesses to address the severe inflation caused by rising energy prices.
In his inauguration speech, he emphasized that "the United States has the most oil and natural gas on the planet," stating that he would produce and export more of these resources to lower energy prices and gain a leadership position in the global energy market. He even signed an executive order to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement immediately. This seemed to indicate a complete reversal of the policies that the Biden administration had implemented for climate change.
The core of the energy emergency that Trump mentioned is simple. First, it aims to significantly increase energy production and replenish strategic reserves to lower energy prices within the U.S. Second, it intends to export the produced energy worldwide to strengthen America's economic position. Trump confidently stated that "the liquid gold (oil and gas) we have" will change the future of the United States.
Interestingly, Trump mentioned that "we need double, or more, energy right now," revealing plans to rapidly construct large factories and AI facilities. This aims to revive manufacturing and create many jobs. Such policies are bound to receive strong support from his core supporters in the industrial and energy sectors.
Of course, there will be significant opposition. The withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and fossil fuel-centered policies are facing strong criticism from environmental groups and renewable energy advocates. While "America First" may yield economic results, it remains to be seen what impact it will have on environmental issues and international trust.
Trump's recent actions clearly reflect his vision of "America-centered." It will be interesting to see whether this energy policy will make America "great again" or spark new controversies in the future!
