Heading north along Belmont Avenue in Los Angeles, just below the entrance to Griffith Park, lies Los Feliz.

Just hearing the name evokes a warm and leisurely feeling. In reality, walking through the area, nature feels close even within the city, and cafes, restaurants, and old houses blend naturally, creating a perception of it being a great neighborhood north of LA's Koreatown.

The name Los Feliz is said to derive from José Vicente Féliz, a Mexican landowner who owned the land in the late 18th century. His large ranch, Rancho Los Feliz, has remained as the name of the area over time.

As a result, there are still many old Spanish-style buildings and houses with red tile roofs in this area. Around Hillhurst Avenue and Belmont Avenue, small shops, restaurants, and independent cafes line the streets, making it a pleasant place to walk.

Residents stroll with their dogs along the shaded roads, and it feels natural to see people walking slowly with coffee in hand.

It feels like a retreat just slightly removed from the urban hustle. Passing through the center of the neighborhood, there is a commercial area known as 'Los Feliz Village,' which attracts many visitors on weekends.

It's a great street for dining and chatting with friends.

There are also old bookstores and small art galleries, making it nice to pop in while taking a walk.

One of my favorite spots is a cafe called 'Los Feliz Cafe,' which has been here since the 1950s.

The interior features classic wooden decor and large windows that let in plenty of sunlight. It's quite enjoyable to stop by in the early morning, sip coffee, and watch people heading towards Griffith Park. The avocado sandwich and croissant are quite delicious.

At lunchtime, I also recommend a restaurant called 'All Time,' located near Hillhurst Avenue, known for its diverse brunch menu and fresh vegetable salads.

Most customers are locals, and when the food arrives, the colorful presentation on each plate makes you want to take photos.

The charm of Los Feliz can be described as 'balanced tranquility' rather than flamboyance.

It's a neighborhood where old history and new sensibilities coexist, and you can feel the rhythm of people's daily lives. Just across the street is Griffith Park, and heading down the other side brings you closer to downtown LA, allowing you to enjoy both urban and natural environments.

On the hills of Los Feliz, some of the most luxurious homes in Los Angeles are located.

This area is adjacent to Griffith Park, offering expansive views, and at night, you can see the Hollywood sign and the lights of downtown LA all at once.

Following the hilly roads, you'll find Spanish Revival, Mid-Century Modern, and Art Deco style homes built in the 1920s and 30s, some of which are famous for being owned by film directors or actors.

The house where Brad Pitt lived for a long time is a prime example, and other celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Kristen Stewart, and Leonardo DiCaprio have owned or lived in this area. Known for its privacy and views, it is considered a quiet retreat for celebrities.

Home prices typically range from $3 million to over $8 million, with some lots exceeding an acre, often including private pools and gardens. It's a quiet area with good access to the city, attracting many artists and creative professionals, and the level of property management is high, maintaining a sophisticated atmosphere throughout the streets.

In particular, Laughlin Park above Los Feliz Boulevard and the area near Vermont Canyon Drive are regarded as the most private and valuable residential areas.

On a leisurely weekend morning, holding a cup of coffee and feeling the air of this street while walking to the entrance of Griffith Park, you will quickly understand why Los Feliz is loved by local residents.
