Columbus is a city well-equipped with infrastructure for enjoying walks and outdoor exercise, both in the urban and suburban areas.
Thanks to well-maintained bike paths and jogging routes, as well as outdoor exercise facilities scattered throughout, it's easy to find people working out in parks on nice days. For those who are new to Columbus, establishing an outdoor exercise routine can be quite helpful in adapting to neighborhood life.
The Olentangy Trail is one of the most popular walking and biking routes in Columbus. This paved trail runs along the Olentangy River and extends over 32 kilometers north to Delaware, Ohio, with picnic tables and benches along the way for resting. The section near the OSU campus is lively with students jogging even during weekdays, and there are many family visitors as well. Many people find the experience of walking this trail during cherry blossom season particularly impressive.
The Scioto Riverwalk is a walking path developed along the urban area, making it an ideal route with the Columbus skyline as a backdrop. Also known as Scioto Mile, this section connects to Bicentennial Park and features fountains and water park facilities during the summer. It's a perfect environment for residents to take a light walk after work, and you can often see residents walking their dogs.

The Hilliard and Dublin areas have many well-maintained community parks and walking trails.
Summit Park in Dublin is a relatively new park that features the Sky Ranch playground and outdoor fitness equipment for adults, allowing both kids and adults to enjoy together. The extensive network of bike paths throughout Dublin makes it great for biking to school or recreational riding.
If you enjoy outdoor fitness, Blacklick Woods Metro Park on the east side and Four Mile Run Equestrian Area are also worth checking out. Blacklick Woods has well-established nature trails for walking through dense forests, and in winter, you can enjoy cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. There are also guided tours led by naturalists throughout the seasons, making it a great way to learn about nature while walking with kids.
For indoor exercise facilities, the RPAC (Recreation and Physical Activity Center) near Ohio State University boasts the largest size in the area, and general public memberships are available. The Columbus Recreation and Parks community centers also offer various programs like swimming, aerobics, and basketball at affordable prices. With the ability to alternate between outdoor and indoor activities, Columbus provides a much better environment for exercise than you might expect. After moving, consider printing a map of nearby parks and starting your neighborhood exploration.
