Columbus is one of the rapidly growing cities in the Midwest, attracting many Korean families due to its favorable living conditions relative to the cost of living.
Unlike cities like New York or Los Angeles, where housing prices are skyrocketing, Columbus offers realistic options for those dreaming of homeownership. Since the early 2020s, the city has seen a steady influx of residents, with strong foundations in education, healthcare, and tech industries centered around Ohio State University (OSU).
The first neighborhood that comes to mind for affordability is Dublin. Located northwest of Columbus, Dublin is known for its excellent school district, which is ranked among the top in Ohio. The median price for single-family homes starts in the low $400,000s, allowing for much larger and more comfortable homes compared to similar price points on the East Coast. With plenty of parks and golf courses nearby, and a stable safety record, it is particularly favored by Korean families raising children.
Westerville is another neighborhood worth mentioning. Located northeast of Columbus, Westerville features a charming Old Town area and hosts vibrant local festivals. Home prices are slightly lower than in Dublin, with decent single-family homes available starting in the mid-$300,000s. Westerville City Schools also have a good reputation, and the community atmosphere is described as warm. It's about a 20-minute drive to downtown Columbus, making commuting manageable.

Lexington and New Albany are also gaining attention as emerging areas.
New Albany is a planned community with well-maintained residential developments, and job opportunities are increasing with the arrival of an Amazon data center and an Intel semiconductor plant nearby. Following Intel's announcement of a $20 billion chip manufacturing facility near New Albany, the local real estate market has gained even more interest. However, due to the nature of new developments, home prices may rise quickly, making timing crucial.
If you want to start at a more affordable price point, Grove City or Reynoldsburg are good options. Grove City is located southwest of Columbus, with a median home price around $250,000, making it relatively accessible. Reynoldsburg is located to the east and has several Korean markets and Asian restaurants, making it easy to connect with the Korean community. Both areas are included in the Columbus metropolitan area, so access to shopping malls and hospitals is convenient.
If you want to live close to downtown Columbus, Hilliard or Galena are also worth considering. Hilliard is one of the fastest-growing cities in Ohio, with well-established shopping and dining infrastructure, and new housing developments continue to emerge. Overall, the Columbus metro area offers plenty of single-family homes with 3-4 bedrooms around $300,000, making it a realistic starting point for those buying a home in the U.S. for the first time. Of course, the availability of listings can vary by season, so it's advisable to consult with a local Korean real estate agent.
