Columbus is the capital of Ohio and has been recognized as one of the fastest growing cities in the nation in recent years.
The population has surpassed approximately 900,000, with the metropolitan area population reaching 2.3 million.
It has become an attractive option for immigrants and newcomers due to its high quality of life relative to the cost of living and abundant job opportunities.
One cannot mention Columbus without noting The Ohio State University (OSU). It is one of the largest campuses in the U.S., with over 60,000 enrolled students.
The area surrounding the university is vibrant and youthful, filled with cafes, restaurants, independent bookstores, and performance venues.
OSU's football team, the Buckeyes, enjoys passionate support from Ohio residents, and on game days, the entire city turns red (the symbol color of Ohio State). Even those who are not fans of football find it worthwhile to visit and experience the excitement.
One of the tourist attractions is the Short North Arts District. This area, stretching along High Street, is the cultural and artistic hub of Columbus, packed with independent galleries, boutique shopping, and a variety of restaurants and bars.
On the first Saturday of every month, Gallery Hop takes place, allowing free exhibition viewing at each gallery.
Another notable site is German Village, a historic district established by 19th-century German immigrants, featuring red brick buildings and unique cafes, restaurants, and bookstores that evoke a European atmosphere. Particularly popular among book lovers is the independent bookstore Book Loft, which is a maze-like store with 32 rooms.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is one of the top zoos in the U.S.
Famed TV host Jack Hanna served as its director for many years, building its global reputation and running various animal conservation programs. It is highly recommended for family visitors. Additionally, COSI (Center of Science and Industry) is an interactive science museum that offers various exhibits and experimental programs that stimulate children's curiosity.
Columbus's food culture is also rapidly evolving. You can enjoy a variety of cuisines from around the world brought by diverse immigrant communities, with multicultural restaurants offering Somali, Ethiopian, and Nepali dishes being particularly abundant. Due to the large Somali immigrant community, there is also a wide variety of halal restaurants. Korean restaurants and Asian markets are clustered in areas like Dublin, Hilliard, and Worthington, making it convenient for Korean visitors.
In terms of transportation infrastructure, Columbus is one of the few major U.S. cities without a subway or light rail system. It primarily operates a bus-centered public transportation system (COTA), but its convenience is limited, leading most residents to rely on cars.

In recent years, investments in bike paths and infrastructure have increased, and modernization of the transportation system is underway as part of a smart city program.
The city has good access to highways and is connected to major cities nationwide through John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH).
The real estate market has seen significant price increases alongside a nationwide real estate boom in the 2020s, but it remains relatively affordable compared to major cities like New York, LA, Chicago, and Seattle. The median home price is around $250,000 to $350,000, and moving to suburban areas can offer even more affordable options for larger homes. The local economy has been further stimulated by the attraction of tech companies and the announcement of an Intel semiconductor plant, leading to continued population influx and a stable long-term outlook for real estate values.
Columbus is emerging as a new hub in the Midwest, not just as Ohio's capital, but as a center for economic growth, cultural diversity, and education. While it may not be as glamorous as New York or LA, this city, with its reasonable cost of living, warm community culture, and abundant job opportunities, can be an attractive option for Koreans starting their lives in the U.S.
