As I continue to write about Arlington, I inevitably arrive at the most important question: Who is this city best suited for?
Like anywhere in the U.S., there is no perfect city. It may be the best choice for some, but others might find it frustrating. In fact, when you hear from people who have lived in or are considering moving to Arlington, their opinions can be quite divided.
For sports enthusiasts, Arlington is close to being a paradise in the U.S. The city is home to AT&T Stadium, the NFL Dallas Cowboys' venue, and Globe Life Field, the MLB Texas Rangers' stadium, both located right in the heart of the city. Additionally, you can enjoy WNBA Dallas Wings games, MLS FC Dallas matches, and various college sports events all within the area. Notably, AT&T Stadium has a capacity of over 80,000 and regularly hosts the Super Bowl, college football championships, and major concerts. It's not an exaggeration to say that there's always something to see on the weekends.
Arlington is also well-known among the younger generation who enjoy eSports. Esports Stadium Arlington was recognized as one of the largest dedicated eSports venues in North America at its opening. With various international tournaments and gaming events taking place, a unique culture has developed that is hard to find in other Texas cities.
For families, Arlington is quite appealing as well. The most famous attraction is undoubtedly Six Flags Over Texas, known as the first Six Flags theme park in Texas, which draws countless families during the summer. Right next door is Hurricane Harbor Arlington, a water park. Additionally, large parks like River Legacy Parks, along with bike trails and fitness facilities, make it a great place for families raising children to spend their weekends.

The healthcare environment is also surprisingly robust. Texas Health Resources, one of the largest non-profit healthcare systems in North Texas, employs thousands and operates a network of hospitals across the DFW area. Arlington has several general hospitals, including Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, providing good access to emergency medical services. This is a significant advantage for families with children or those preparing for retirement.
However, there are clear downsides. The biggest weakness is public transportation. For someone coming from cities like New York, Chicago, or Washington D.C., this is often the first shocking aspect of Arlington. A car is essentially a necessity. Most commuting, shopping, hospital visits, and dining are centered around vehicle use. Living without a car is realistically quite difficult.
Another issue is traffic congestion. While it's generally manageable, the roads can become quite congested on days when there are Cowboys games, Rangers games, or major concerts. The area around the stadium, in particular, takes on a completely different atmosphere.
The city's vibe can also be polarizing depending on the person. Arlington is a city with energy and activity rather than the quietness of a small suburban town. There are many events and visitors, which may feel somewhat hectic for those seeking a tranquil rural lifestyle or a slower pace of life.
Ultimately, Arlington is best suited for those who have a car, enjoy sports and entertainment, and want to take advantage of the benefits of the DFW metropolitan area. Housing prices are relatively more affordable than in popular northern Dallas areas, job accessibility is good, and there are plenty of amenities. For the Korean community, it also offers decent access to major Korean neighborhoods like Carrollton, Grand Prairie, and Irving.
While it may not be the perfect city for everyone, if you want to have work, education, healthcare, sports, and leisure all within one area, I believe Arlington is a competitive option in North Texas. Living here, you'll start to understand why the city's population continues to grow.
