This film, better known in Korea as 'Some Like It Hot,' is still funny and a sophisticated comedy even today.
The movie features the top stars of the time, including Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.
Just looking at the cast, it was already a successful film. However, this work did not succeed solely because of star power.
The plot is set in 1920s Chicago. Two jazz musicians accidentally witness a gangland shooting.
The problem is that simply witnessing it puts their lives in danger. Ultimately, the two make an extreme choice to survive.
They disguise themselves as women and hide in an all-female orchestra.
This escape leads them all the way to the beaches of Florida, and the film unfolds into increasingly absurd and hilarious situations.
There is an interesting point here. The Florida resort scenes in the movie are not actually in Florida.
Most of the exterior shots were filmed at the Hotel del Coronado.
This hotel, which opened in 1888, is a prime example of Victorian architecture, characterized by its red roof and white exterior.
It remains one of the landmarks representing San Diego today.
The reason this hotel is important in the film is that it plays a role beyond just a backdrop.
Key scenes, such as the one where Marilyn Monroe's character 'Sugar Kane' walks on the beach, party scenes, and pool scenes, were all filmed here.

Even though it is a black-and-white film, the silhouette of the building and the beach atmosphere come alive strongly.
In fact, the lack of color emphasizes a more classic feel.
Now, an important story. At the time of filming, Marilyn Monroe was in a precarious state.
Outwardly, she appeared to be a perfect star, but in reality, it was a very unstable period for her.
She often struggled to remember her lines on set, and it was common to shoot the same scene dozens of times.
Even the director, Billy Wilder, mentioned that her condition caused significant delays in the shooting schedule.
Ironically, that instability oddly matched the character in the film.
The character 'Sugar Kane' is pure yet somewhat clumsy, with emotional ups and downs.
Some have noted that Monroe's real-life persona naturally blended into her performance, creating a more vibrant portrayal.
It became a character that was more appealing not because it was perfect, but because it was human.

The factors for its success are clear. The first is the subject matter.
A man dressing as a woman leads to comedic situations. While this is a common setup today, it was quite a groundbreaking comedy at the time.
The second is the dialogue and pacing. The film's dialogue is alive. It is fast, witty, and relentless.
The line "Nobody's perfect" from the final scene is still considered one of the greatest closing lines in film history.
The third is the chemistry between the actors. The comedic performances of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are almost textbook level.
With Marilyn Monroe's presence added, the balance of the film is perfectly maintained. It does not lean too far in one direction.
The result is clear. This film won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design and was ranked as the greatest comedy film of all time by the American Film Institute.
It has transcended being just a "fun movie" and has become a representative work of the genre.
The Hotel del Coronado is still in operation today and is more famously known as 'The Del.'
When you visit, the scenes from the movie naturally come to mind. It is one of the few places where you can walk on the beach that Marilyn Monroe walked on.
Seeing the film before visiting makes it even more enjoyable, but even without that knowledge, it is a wonderful place.
However, knowing the history definitely changes your perspective. It feels less like just a pretty hotel and more like a space where a moment in film history remains intact.
