It is well known that Hartford is the hub of the insurance industry, but there aren't many job offers in the field I am looking for...
I have about 5 years of experience in customer data management and system operations in healthcare and insurance IT.
I have done everything from server management to security and database operations.
As a result, I have developed a desire to move beyond simple technical roles and into management, meaning I want to take on a role that oversees projects.
However, the problem is that finding such positions in the Hartford job market is not easy.
Since there are so many insurance company headquarters, IT-related positions are always available. Job postings for system engineers, data analysts, and security personnel are consistently appearing.
But when it comes to positions with the keyword "management," such as IT manager, data management manager, or project manager, the competition is fierce and these roles do not come up often.
It seems that these are positions where existing employees tend to stay for a long time, haha.
From my experience, entry-level or mid-level technical positions have frequent turnover, so job postings are consistently visible, but management positions are not easily vacated once someone is in them.
Thus, the postings that do come up are rare, and even when they do, they often have strict requirements for experience and certifications. Many require qualifications like PMP (Project Management Professional) or CSM (Scrum Master).

In various ways, I am also mindful of my wife's perspective, and I have only had 2 interviews in the past 4 months without securing a job, which has left me quite troubled.
This makes me think that I should always be prepared for the time when I might have to quit my job. I am learning this lesson the hard way.
Since my experience is focused on technical operations and customer data management, I need to strategize on how to effectively connect this to management.
I think I need to clearly convey in my resume that the work I have done so far can expand into team leading or project oversight, and I am considering studying for certifications if necessary.
It cannot be said that there are no opportunities in Hartford, a city that is a center for insurance and finance.
However, the reality is that the "management" positions I want are infrequent and highly competitive.
Ultimately, I think I need time to prepare for how to leverage my technical experience as a stepping stone to the next level.
On the other hand, I also hold the hope that "if I can just hold on a little longer, an opportunity will eventually come."
What I have realized while searching for a job in Hartford is that finding a position that suits me and where I can grow is the real challenge.
