To be honest, I never really thought about the fact that there are filming locations in Irving.
Upon researching, I found that Irving has appeared in quite a few movies and dramas produced in the DFW area.
The place that looks most like a movie set is definitely Williams Square.
Here, you can find the Mustangs of Las Colinas, a large bronze sculpture depicting nine wild horses running on water.
Created by African wildlife sculptor Robert Glen, it was unveiled in 1984. When you get up close, it's much larger than it appears in photos.
The horses are designed to look like they are galloping through the water, which creates quite a dramatic scene when photographed. It's easy to see why it's consistently used as a location for photos and videos.
For movie lovers, the 1999 film Office Space is even more entertaining.
This film cleverly satirizes the frustrating lives of office workers and is still considered a classic in workplace comedies.
Many scenes from this film were shot in the DFW area, including 300 Decker Drive in Irving. Passing by that area after watching the movie feels a bit surreal. It's ironic that a film about hating to go to work was shot in Las Colinas, an area filled with offices.
On the TV side, there's Walker, Texas Ranger. This famous series starred Chuck Norris and aired from 1993 to 2001. As the title suggests, it was filmed in various locations throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Many people may have seen Chuck Norris catching criminals and kicking them on TV, with much of the background being the DFW area we drive through today.
There's also a completely different vibe in the 2017 film A Ghost Story. This independent film features Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara and was shot in various locations across North Texas, primarily in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
This film presents emotions like time, loss, and memory at a very slow pace, rather than flashy action. The vast spaces of Texas and the quiet suburban landscapes blend strangely well with the film's atmosphere.
Of course, Irving is not a city where you see filming locations on every street like Los Angeles. Tourists don't come specifically to see movie locations.
Still, it's interesting to think that an ordinary building or road I pass by without a second thought might be a scene from a movie for someone else.
Especially after watching Office Space, passing by the area around Decker Drive looks a bit different. Going to work at an actual office after passing by the filming location of a movie about hating to go to work is a little piece of dark comedy you can enjoy in Irving.
