Average Temperatures, Precipitation, and Snowfall in Brooklyn's Seasonal Weather - Brooklyn - 1

Living in Brooklyn for many years makes you accustomed to the weather in this city, just like the passage of time.

When I first arrived here, I had no idea how harsh New York winters could be, but now I can smell spring coming and think, 'Ah, it's April.' I've compiled Brooklyn's weather through both numbers and experience.

The climate of the New York area, which includes Brooklyn, is classified as a humid continental climate. The average annual temperature is around 13 degrees Celsius (56 degrees Fahrenheit), and the seasonal changes are distinct. In winter (December to February), the average low temperature ranges from -3 to -5 degrees Celsius, while the high temperature fluctuates between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius, with the wind chill sometimes dropping it below -15 degrees Celsius on particularly windy days.

The average annual snowfall is about 25 to 30 inches (63 to 76 cm), and in years with heavy snowfall, a single storm can bring over 20 inches. The record for the heaviest snowfall in Brooklyn was set in January 2016, with 27.5 inches accumulating.

Spring (March to May) is the most unpredictable season in Brooklyn. March is still cold and rainy, while temperatures rise to 10 to 17 degrees Celsius in April, marking the beginning of cherry blossom season in Prospect Park. May becomes mild, around 20 degrees Celsius, making it the most pleasant month for outdoor activities.

The annual precipitation is about 49 inches (124 cm), distributed relatively evenly throughout the months, so there isn't a distinct dry or wet season. Summer (June to August) sees average temperatures reaching 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, with high humidity making it feel like over 35 degrees Celsius on some days. August is the hottest and most humid month, and during this time, the urban heat island effect can make the city feel 3 to 5 degrees warmer than the surrounding areas.

Autumn (September to November) is often considered the most beautiful season in Brooklyn by many. Summer temperatures linger until September, then the leaves begin to change color in October, and by November, temperatures drop back to 5 to 12 degrees Celsius.

The clear days in October, with views of the Manhattan skyline from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, are truly beautiful. Regarding hurricanes, the New York area can occasionally be affected during hurricane season from June to November, with Hurricane Sandy in 2012 causing significant damage to the Brooklyn coastline.

Overall, Brooklyn's weather is similar to the four seasons in Korea, but it feels like the winter winds are stronger and the summer humidity is a bit higher.
