When asked what city is good, I always say it really varies from person to person.
Is Columbia the perfect city? Not really. But for those who meet the right conditions, it's true that people say, "There's no place like it."
Having lived here for a long time, I've realized that there are definitely people who fit this neighborhood perfectly.
If education for children is the most important factor for your family, then you really don't need to think twice about Columbia.
The Howard County school district is very stable, and overall, the average quality is quite high, so any school you choose will provide a solid foundation.
Especially since it has an atmosphere that helps immigrant families' children adapt, there's less chance of feeling out of place or intimidated.
It's structured in a way that you can achieve results without intense private tutoring like in Korea, which is a relief for parents. This is a big deal.
And many people also consider job opportunities. For those working in D.C. or Baltimore, Columbia is perfectly located in between.
In the past, commuting was a bit of a burden, but these days, with more hybrid work options, it's become much more manageable.
For those who only need to go in 2-3 days a week, this distance is quite manageable.

Moreover, there are quite a few job opportunities in government, IT, and biotech in this area, so the range of job options is broader than you might think.
It's a decent setup for maintaining a career while living quietly.
Nature lovers also find high satisfaction here. The parks, lakes, and walking trails are really well developed.
Just stepping outside your home, there are places to walk and bike. Families with children have plenty to do on weekends without having to travel far. The advantage of this neighborhood is that it maintains urban convenience while providing breathing space.
However, to be honest, there are people who might not find it suitable. If you want to live without a car and rely solely on public transportation, it might feel a bit limiting. Those who enjoy going out at night, attending performances, and experiencing the city vibe might find it a bit dull.
The cost of living and housing prices aren't particularly cheap, so if you need to minimize expenses, you should consider other options.
Ultimately, what's important isn't whether this city is good or bad, but whether it fits you.
Columbia isn't a city for everyone; it's tailored for those who want a certain lifestyle.
But if that direction aligns with you, you'll naturally find yourself thinking, "I'm glad I came here" as you live your life.
