Today, I would like to take a look at Minnesota, a gem of the Upper Midwest. This place is more than just a state; it boasts abundant nature, a unique history, and a charm that blends urban and rural life, and I will share its vivid stories with you.
The area of Minnesota is about 225,356㎢, which is comparable to or slightly larger than the 223,000㎢ of the Korean Peninsula. This vast land is home to numerous lakes, earning it the nickname 'Land of 10,000 Lakes.' In fact, the official count of lakes exceeds ten thousand, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.
Geographically, Minnesota shares its northern border with Manitoba and Ontario in Canada, is bordered by Wisconsin and Lake Superior to the east, Iowa to the south, and North Dakota and South Dakota to the west. Across Lake Superior lies part of Michigan, and these diverse neighbors have had a special impact on the natural environment and culture.
In particular, the upper Mississippi River begins in central Minnesota and flows through the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) into Iowa, playing a significant role in the state's history and development. Thanks to the Mississippi River, it was able to grow as a hub for trade and transportation.
Additionally, as the northernmost state in the continental U.S., some areas are not directly connected to Canada by land but are linked by lakes and waterways, offering a unique border experience. In fact, there are interesting stories about some remote areas where students cross the border twice and even have to declare customs every time they go to and from school, showcasing that Minnesota is more than just a state in America; it has a special charm.
If you enjoy city life, you cannot miss the Twin Cities area, the most populous region in the state. This metropolitan area centered around Minneapolis and St. Paul boasts the second-largest economy in the Midwest and stands out in finance, culture, and the arts. When you visit, you will experience the modern vibe of the city along with a rich blend of history and nature.
After hearing about the charm of Minnesota, don't you want to visit at least once? With its vast land, abundant nature, and unique culture and history, Minnesota is definitely a special state that deserves a spot on your travel list. I will return with more enriching stories next time. Have a wonderful day!
