Living in Duluth, you might think it's just a quiet suburban town in America, but once you settle in, you realize it's actually a lively place with plenty of community spirit.
There are surprisingly frequent festivals and local events.
When people think of suburban America, they often picture just going back and forth between home and the grocery store, but Duluth is quite active, with something happening almost every weekend in Gwinnett County.
The most famous event is undoubtedly the Duluth Fall Festival. Every autumn, downtown Duluth transforms completely.
The usually quiet streets fill with people. Food booths pop up, live music plays, and there are lots of kids running around and people walking their dogs.
There's a relaxed atmosphere typical of American neighborhood festivals. Honestly, it's not a huge event, but that cozy vibe is part of the charm of living in America. There's no admission fee, making it easy to attend. Families with kids usually go at least once.
The Art and Craft Fair is also quite popular. Local artists set up booths selling paintings and handmade crafts, and you can't help but think, "Wow, Americans really love these kinds of events."
Many people buy handmade candles or wooden crafts.
In Korea, the culture is more about department stores and large shopping malls, but here, local event culture is very much alive.

Then there's the Gwinnett County Fair. This one really captures the Southern vibe.
There are rides, the smell of fried food, livestock exhibits, and country music playing. Many Koreans who visit for the first time often feel like they've stepped onto a movie set.
Seeing American families walking around with corn dogs makes you think, "Ah, this is really the South." Kids love the rides, and adults go just to enjoy the atmosphere.
If you like baseball, catching a Gwinnett Stripers game is also part of the local culture. It's not as expensive or complicated as a major league game, making it a comfortable outing for families. Ticket prices are reasonable, and the stadium atmosphere is relaxed. On nights with fireworks events, a lot of people show up.
There are also quite a few Korean community events. During Chuseok or Lunar New Year, you'll see kids in hanbok and food booths featuring Korean cuisine. Events like the Georgia Korean Culture Festival showcase everything from K-pop performances to taekwondo demonstrations. It's a bit surprising to find a Korean festival in the middle of America. It seems to play a significant role in providing second-generation kids with cultural experiences.
In the summer, there are often free music performances at Town Green in downtown. Watching people spread out their blankets and enjoy the music creates a very laid-back atmosphere. There's a unique leisurely feel typical of suburban American towns. Of course, you have to brace yourself for the Georgia heat in the middle of summer; it can be quite hot even when you're just sitting still.
Ultimately, Duluth isn't a flashy big city. It's not as chaotic as New York or as trendy as LA. However, it's a pretty nice place for families to live, enjoy local events, get to know people, and feel the community vibe.
That's why many long-time residents say, "It's a boring place, but somehow it grows on you."
