Reasons Henderson Feels Comfortable from a Korean Perspective - Henderson - 1

Henderson, NV, is located right next to Las Vegas and offers a unique living environment.

In recent years, there has been a noticeable trend of Koreans moving from other states preferring Henderson over Las Vegas. Let's take a closer look at the reasons.

The first and most significant reason is safety. Based on FBI statistics and Nevada crime data, Henderson consistently ranks as one of the safest cities among those with populations over 250,000 in the United States. Compared to downtown Las Vegas, both property crimes (like vehicle theft and burglary) and violent crime rates are significantly lower. The primary reason Korean families choose Henderson is for its safe living environment.

The second reason is the educational environment. Henderson is classified as a good school district within the Clark County School District (CCSD). Schools in areas like Green Valley, Galleria at Sunset, and north of Water Street show academic performance indicators that exceed the CCSD average. Particularly, schools with STEM-focused charter schools or magnet programs are concentrated in Henderson, making it popular among education-focused Korean parents. In addition to public schools, several private schools operate within Henderson.

The third reason is the quality of the living environment. New housing developments in Henderson are planned, featuring well-maintained road networks, extensive bike paths, parks, and trail systems. There are various options ranging from upscale residential communities like Summit View, McDonald Highlands, and Lake Las Vegas to more affordable middle-class housing developments. HOA regulations are well enforced, keeping the neighborhood environment clean.

The fourth reason is the tax environment. Nevada has no state income tax, which is particularly advantageous for Korean business owners and high-income professionals. This is one of the main reasons Koreans moving from states with high state income taxes, such as California (up to 13.3%), Hawaii (11%), and Oregon (9.9%), choose Henderson. The sales tax in Clark County is about 8.375%, which is around the national average.

The fifth reason is accessibility to the Korean community. While the Korean community in Henderson is not as large as in Las Vegas, the Korean infrastructure (markets, restaurants, churches, beauty salons, medical facilities, etc.) in Las Vegas's Chinatown is accessible within about a 30-minute drive. There are also small Korean-owned restaurants, beauty salons, and tutoring centers (for math/English) in Henderson. Some Korean churches are located in Henderson or have relocated from Las Vegas to Henderson.

The sixth reason is the climate. The Nevada desert climate has low humidity and over 300 clear days a year. For those with joint issues or sensitivity to humidity, the dry climate can be beneficial. While summer heat can be intense, it is not as humid as summers in Korea, making the perceived temperature more bearable. Winters do not drop below freezing, resulting in very little snowfall, and the weather is much milder compared to winter in Korea.
