Many families are moving to Miami for their children's education.
Since the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) is the fourth largest school district in the U.S., there are differences in quality among schools, and the choice of which school to target influences where families decide to live. Here are three top public high schools.
First is the Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH). Located near downtown Miami, this school is one of the most prestigious magnet public high schools in Florida. As the name suggests, it has a curriculum specialized in design, architecture, and visual arts, consistently ranking among the top high schools in the nation.
Graduates are well-known for gaining admission to MIT, Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, and Ivy League schools. As a magnet school, it accepts students regardless of their residential area, but there is a portfolio and admission review process.
The second is the School for Advanced Studies (SAS). There are several campuses within Miami-Dade County, with the SAS linked to the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus being the most representative.
This school features a Dual Enrollment program that allows students to complete both high school and college courses simultaneously, earning approximately 60 college credits along with their high school diploma upon graduation. AP (Advanced Placement) courses are also widely offered. It consistently ranks among the top public schools in Florida and is particularly popular among students aiming for medical school.
The third is Miami Palmetto Senior High School. Located near Pinecrest and South Miami, this school is known for its high academic achievement among general public high schools.
It offers a strong AP program, IB (International Baccalaureate) courses, and various specialized programs. Although it is a general public high school automatically assigned to residents within the district, its high standards make homes in the Palmetto district some of the most sought-after in Miami. It is also a community where many Korean families reside. All three of these schools demonstrate top achievement within the Miami-Dade school district and are worth serious consideration when choosing a school for your child.
