What Cities Are Near Fort Worth? - Fort Worth - 1

When I first moved to Fort Worth, it took me a while to realize how central this city is to such a large metropolitan area. It's often referred to as DFW, but within a 50-mile radius, there are cities with completely different characteristics. The charm of this area is that depending on where you drive, you can experience a totally different Texas.

First, to the east, Arlington is just 15 miles from Fort Worth. With a population of over 397,500, it's home to AT&T Stadium (the Dallas Cowboys' home) and Globe Life Field (the Texas Rangers' home). If you're a sports fan, you'll likely spend more time in Arlington than in Fort Worth. Continuing east, you'll find Dallas, where the options for work, shopping, and dining expand significantly. Grand Prairie is located 21 miles from Fort Worth, right next to Arlington.

Heading north, you'll reach Denton, a college town with the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, two large public universities. It has a vibrant, youthful atmosphere with interesting independent restaurants and a lively music scene. To the west, you'll find Weatherford, which has a true Texas county town feel. Just a 30-minute drive from Fort Worth, you'll find a completely different pace of life waiting for you. To the south are Cleburne and Granbury, with Granbury featuring a historic downtown and a lake, making it a perfect weekend drive destination. Cleburne has a quiet small-town vibe with relatively low real estate prices.

At the eastern edge, 50 miles away, is Garland, a city with a population of 239,000 and one of the major manufacturing hubs in Texas. The eastern belt of DFW also includes cities like Richardson, Plano, and Irving, which are home to many IT and financial companies. Looking at it this way, Fort Worth is not just a single city, but the western gateway to a vast metropolitan area where millions live within 50 miles. The fact that there are new hubs to explore in every direction is one of the reasons to put down roots in this area.
