The hospital I frequently visit in my neighborhood is John Peter Smith Hospital, commonly referred to as JPS Hospital.
Many people assume that it is small or has outdated facilities because it is called a county hospital.
However, it actually plays a vital role as a hospital.
JPS is the main hospital of the JPS Health Network, a public healthcare system operated by Tarrant County.
Established in 1906, it is a large medical institution currently operating over 570 beds.
It serves as a representative public hospital providing medical services to residents of Fort Worth and Tarrant County.
One of the hospital's greatest strengths is its emergency care.JPS is designated as a Level I Trauma Center in the DFW area.
In simple terms, this means it is a top-rated emergency center capable of treating patients with traffic accidents, gunshot wounds, severe trauma, and major accidents.

In fact, a significant number of severe trauma patients occurring in Tarrant County are transported here.
As the CDC identifies trauma as the leading cause of death for those under 44, JPS can be seen as a key facility for regional emergency care.
The emergency room is always busy, but that means there are experienced medical staff working there.
It plays an important role in the areas of severe trauma, stroke, and heart disease.
The hospital also holds certifications as a Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and for heart disease.
Another interesting point is that it is an educational hospital.
JPS is a prominent teaching hospital that trains doctors and nurses, operating several residency programs.
It is particularly known as one of the main hospitals where Texas medical students and residents practice.
This offers the advantage of meeting a variety of specialized medical professionals. It is also quite famous as a maternity hospital.

Every year, over 5,000 newborns are born here, and it also operates a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit).
It serves a diverse range of patients from low-income families to the general public in the Fort Worth area.
The facilities differ somewhat from the glamorous feel of private hospitals. If you expect a marble lobby and a luxury hotel atmosphere, you might be disappointed.
Instead, there is a unique atmosphere of a public hospital that focuses on actual medical services.
Recently, there have been large-scale expansion projects and modernization of facilities, leading to many positive evaluations that it has become much cleaner than before.
JPS is often mentioned in the Fort Worth Korean community.
There are many stories of receiving help when insurance was lacking or in emergencies, and conversely, there are also tales of long wait times in the emergency room.
In fact, this aspect is similar for most large public hospitals across the country due to the high volume of patients.
Personally, I would describe JPS as "Fort Worth's safety net." It is a hospital that plays a significant practical role rather than being flashy.
It is regarded as a representative safety net hospital that provides medical services regardless of the economic situation of local residents, and it can be said to be one of the most important medical institutions in Fort Worth for severe trauma and emergency care.
In cases of emergencies or severe treatment needs, I believe JPS is a hospital that can be very helpful to know about.
