Living in Plano, I thought I would have to go to Dallas or Frisco for shopping, but I found that most needs can be met right here in Plano.
From clothing to household items, gifts, and great restaurants, there's a lot available, so I don't often find myself needing to travel far. Especially in the summer, it's a relief not to have to drive long distances, and being able to shop and dine in one place is really convenient.
The first place I want to mention is The Shops at Willow Bend. It's one of the representative malls in Plano, and since it's an indoor mall, you can enjoy shopping comfortably even in the scorching Texas heat of over 100 degrees in the summer. Neiman Marcus and Macy's have long been the anchor stores, and popular brands like H&M and Banana Republic are also present, making it a great spot for families to enjoy shopping together.
Recently, a large-scale renovation plan worth about $145 million was announced, which will transform the mall into a more modern mixed-use space. It's not just a shopping area; they plan to expand to include restaurants, entertainment facilities, and community spaces, making it likely to become a landmark in Plano. I also appreciate that the parking lot is spacious, making it relatively easy to use even on weekends.
The second place I personally visit most often is the Legacy area. Combining Legacy East, Legacy North, and Legacy West, it's arguably the most vibrant commercial district in Plano. During the day, it's bustling with office workers, and in the evening, you can easily see families and couples enjoying meals or taking walks.
Legacy West features upscale brand stores, trendy restaurants, cafes, and dessert shops, making it a great place to shop and dine at the same time. On Saturday evenings, the outdoor plaza fills with people, and seasonal live music performances or local events are frequently held. It feels like walking through the stylish streets seen in American dramas, making it the first place I take guests when they visit.
Lastly, I want to recommend the Plano Farmers Market. It has a completely different charm compared to the flashy malls. It operates every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM at 4757 W. Park Blvd, offering seasonal produce and handmade goods.
You can find fresh vegetables and fruits, eggs, honey, homemade bread, and jams, as well as crafts and household items made by local artisans. Since many producers sell directly, you can ask about the growing process or how to use the products, and if you visit with kids, it feels like a small educational experience. The warm atmosphere here is the biggest charm that you won't find in large supermarkets.
One of the advantages of Plano is that it has a variety of shopping spaces with different characteristics. You can shop for brands at department stores, enjoy a leisurely evening in a stylish mixed-use space, or buy fresh food at the farmers market on Saturday mornings while mingling with local residents. I think having such diverse options nearby enhances the satisfaction of living in Plano. So, if new people move to Plano, I highly recommend that they check out these three places before visiting tourist spots.
