The climate of Rancho Cucamonga is characterized by a semi-arid climate typical of inland Southern California, with larger temperature variations and generally drier conditions compared to coastal cities.
The average annual temperature is around 63-65°F (17-18°C), and the annual precipitation is relatively low at about 16-18 inches. Rainfall is mainly concentrated in the winter months from November to March, while the rest of the year tends to be clear.
With over 280 days of sunshine a year, the weather is quite favorable for outdoor activities. Snow is rarely seen in the city, but heading to the northern mountainous areas allows for winter snow enjoyment, providing a wide range of seasonal recreational options.
Summer is the most intense season in this region. The heat from June to September often sees daytime temperatures reaching 95-105°F (35-40°C), with heatwaves exceeding 110°F (43°C) occurring in July and August.
Although the low humidity makes it bearable in the shade, the perceived temperature rises sharply under direct sunlight. Due to strong UV rays, sunscreen and hydration are essential, and air conditioning is practically a necessity for daily life.
Autumn is relatively pleasant but is affected by the Santa Ana winds. This period sees dry and strong winds, increasing the risk of wildfires. However, the clear skies and clean air make it a great season for outdoor activities or drives.
Winter is mild. Daytime temperatures range from 55-65°F (13-18°C), so it's not very cold, but nighttime temperatures can drop below 40°F (4°C). Rainfall is concentrated during this time, and occasionally heavy rain can cause drainage issues in low-lying areas.
Still, with almost no snow and generally mild conditions, it is comfortable for living.
Spring is considered the most livable season. From March to May, temperatures are stable, and the air is clear, leading to increased hiking and outdoor activities. Wildflowers bloom in the surrounding mountains and fields, contributing to the overall pleasant weather.
In early June, the 'June Gloom' phenomenon, influenced by coastal areas, may bring cloudy mornings, but inland Rancho Cucamonga often clears up by the afternoon. Overall, the four seasons are distinct, yet extreme cold is absent, making the living environment quite comfortable.
