Curious About Montgomery's Annual Festivals and Events? - Montgomery - 1

There's something I really want to share with those who work at or have just settled into the Hyundai plant in Montgomery.

Montgomery may seem like a quiet, laid-back Southern city on the surface, but once you live here, you'll find that there are more cultural events and activities happening than you might expect. Many people end up just going back and forth between home and work for years without this information. So, I'll share some events that I've personally experienced or kept track of. Knowing about these can definitely enhance your satisfaction with life here 😊

First, one of the most notable cultural events is the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

This festival is considered one of the top Shakespeare festivals in the United States. It operates seasonally throughout the year, typically showcasing over ten productions, not just Shakespeare's works but also Broadway-style musicals, children's performances, and world premieres. The actors are professionals, so the quality is quite high. It's great for families, and for those looking to get more comfortable with English, it provides a wonderful environment. It might feel a bit daunting at first, but once you go, you'll find it's more enjoyable than you expected.

During the summer season, the atmosphere completely changes. A highlight is the Jubilee CityFest, which is a large festival held downtown for three days around Memorial Day in May. It's a typical American outdoor festival featuring music performances, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. It's a great outing for kids and a perfect way to experience the local vibe. Especially during this time, the weather is nice, and a lot of people come out.

On the Riverwalk side, there are craft beer events like the Riverbend Brew Fest, and the Riverwalk Wine Festival is also held separately. These events are great for casually enjoying with coworkers, providing a natural opportunity to mingle with local employees. Many networks are formed in these settings.

As we move into fall, there's a different vibe. In the EastChase shopping area, the Harvest Jam at The Shoppes at EastChase takes place, where you can enjoy music performances along with local food and handmade crafts. And we can't forget the Red Bluff Music, Arts and Food Festival. As the name suggests, it's an event that brings together music, art, and food, allowing you to truly experience the local culture.

At the end of the year, there's an event that many families look forward to. It's the Christmas Lights Festival at Montgomery Zoo, where the entire zoo is decorated with Christmas lights. It's larger than you might think, and kids really love it. Going in the evening creates a wonderful atmosphere, perfect for taking photos. I think families should definitely check it out at least once.

One important tip is that the schedules for these events change slightly each year. So, it's a good idea to check the official website or the local newspaper, Montgomery Advertiser, for the latest schedule before you go. It can be quite disappointing to arrive only to find that the dates don't match up.

And one more important point for the Korean community: there are also regular events organized by the Korean community, often centered around churches or Korean associations. Participating in these can provide a lot of information and make adapting to life here much easier. Especially for newcomers, these connections can be a great help.

In summary, Montgomery is more than just a "quiet factory town." Experiencing these events one by one can completely change your perception of the city.

Stepping away from the routine of just going between work and home, if you go out once in a while on the weekends, you'll find many enjoyable elements.

As you accumulate these experiences in this area, a natural attachment to life in America and this region seems to develop.
